  I believe that there is a First Cause. Something caused the material universe to come into existence. What I don't believe is that a religionist can describe in detail the characteristics of the First Cause. I don't believe that the "Creator" or "God" or whatever you want to call is what has been described by Christians (or any other religionist).

  The First Cause is external to our universe. Therefore, we have no frame of reference to comprehend the First Cause. It would be like asking a line to understand a cube. The line has no frame of reference and the cube is extra dimensional from the line's point of view. We are the line, the First Cause is the cube.

  I don't buy this "God is love, but you have to be patient because god is on a different time scale than we are".

  There is SOOOO much suffering on this planet. Those of you who say otherwise have never traveled to or lived in the 3rd world.

  I don't care if the years that humans have lived on this earth is 1 nanaosecond in God time, a being of pure love would move immediately to end the suffering.

  Since God is all knowing and omnipresent it wouldn't take God more than that to realize that something was up. And since he is all knowing (according to Christains) he can see the future so he knows the outcome of allowing the suffering to continue.

  I don't buy the patience excuse. Its like someone else said, what is God waiting for? Billions more to suffer? Only a psycho would do that.

  This is how I came to the conclusion that the God as described by Christains does not exist.

  Christains claim these qualities for God:

  God is [pure] love.

  God is all powerful.

  God is all knowing.

  God is all wise.

  God is all just.

  Okay, I'll just use one example to prove my point that this "god" does not exist, or else it does exist and is either insane, malevolent, or indifferent.

  Millions of people, many of them children, are stricken with river blindness, caused by a parasitic worm that lives in rivers. Reading about these cases causes your heart to break. If God is pure love then there is NO WAY that God can watch this and not intervene and do something about it. Put something in the water that drives the worms out. Change the worms' eating habits so that they don't latch onto people. Alter human DNA so that human beings secret a chemical that the worms don't like.. Make it rain the pesticide that kilss the worms. I don't know. BUT DO SOMETHING.

  So, if God is [pure] love and doesn't intervene in this, then he is not all powerful. If God is all powerful and does not intervene in this then he is not [pure] love. The god as presented by Christians does not exist.

  i was seriously injured in desert storm.

  my wife is out of town and i was going to give her a nice christmas by putting up a real tree, going crazy with tacky decorations, all that.

  Hello,

  I was seriously injured in Desert Storm. Long story. My wife is out of town and I was going to give her a nice Christmas by putting up a real tree, going crazy with tacky decorations, all that. My wife loves Christmas. I started by putting the star on the very top of the tree and I fell off the ladder. I was in the little market down the street from my house telling one of my friends that I was sad because I am just not able to do the decorating for my wife. Someone from the church overheard me and today they showed up with a car full of people to decorate my house.

  Worldly people are so evil, aren't they? The WTBTS needs to shut up.

  Convention Parking Scam - What exactly is it?

  often mentioned but some of us don't know what it refers too (except the fact they charged for parking when they didn't have too - could be argued it offsets the cost of stadium hire).

  is there a specifc example with how much money is raised?.

  Those hotels were always the pits. I have a strong suspicion that the WTBTS used a "connected" travel agency and got the commissions on those hotel rooms and I suspect that they negotiated a higher commission than normal.

  I can't prove it but it makes no sense why they were so insistent otherwise.

  My wife is finishing up her Ph.D. in research and we go to conferences about 6 times a year where she presents her research. Anyway, the group putting on the conference gives you a list of hotels they have negotiated good deals with but they don't say ANYTHING about whether you stay there or not, totally up to you.

  20 years of public speaking and you were still giving talks in the 2nd school?? Wow, you must have been a sh*t hot speaker.

  The elders were upset with me because I made an issue out of the parking scam, I told off a CO for raising $100,000 from the congregations in our city to buy a new RV and truck that he did not need while an elderly sister was homeless because her old shack of a house burned down and I thought the CO could go a few more years with his ONE year old RV and truck and give the money to the sister instead, I went to James Island for Hurricane relief and they took us to a rich brother's house and had us clearing trees off of his 100 acres and I said "I didn't come up here to be a ranch hand on the Ponderosa, I came up here to help people in real need, I'm going to go find some people to help" and the elders told me I couldn't do that and I just laughed and started walking toward an area we had passed where there were houses with trees in the living rooms and I helped an elderly lady get the tree out of her living room. The elders tried to 'scold' me for leaving 'the arrangement' when they caught up with me a few days later and I told them they didn't have any power over me and I would do as I pleased. Well, there were other reasons, but you get the idea.

  I would have thought that as an x JW you would be quite familiar with the titles in the NAZI party:

  Konzentrationslager-Vorarbeiter = concentration camp overseer

  witnesses use the term 'publisher' instead of 'preacher' to describe their position in the congregation.

  that should be a dead give away that they are salespeople working for a book publishing company verses preachers who are working for god.

  i can't believe i never saw something this obvious.

  Many Bible versions use the word "publish" where other translations use the word preach.

  Mark 13:10 in the King James Version says "And the gospel must first be published among all nations."

  Acts 10:37, "That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;"

  Acts 13:49, "And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region."
