  I sing. Many people who have heard me think I am very talented. I studied opera with a well known opera singer, she thought I was talented. I didn't study opera until the age of 44. I became a JW at the age of 15. EVERY year book pounded it into your head through their ridiculous "life stories", which I learned later are mostly made up lies, that to serve god you have to give up whatever talents you have and be a janitor.

  I HATE the WTBTS and the governing body. I didn't start singing professionally until I was 46. All those years my love of music was stifled. And for what?

  I don't see anything nefarious here.

  An artist who owns a company which sells high quality paint and air brushes posted his story on Barbara Anderson's site. He used to be a JW and he donated some of his patented air brushes and paints to the WTBTS and gave them some free consulting so that he could teach the art department how to use his products and also he was to look at the art department's processes and make recommendations on how to improve things.

  His report was that the art department is filled with people who are incompetent, pig headed, dishonest, and put having their egos massaged above producing quality work. He stated that none of the department heads were qualified to do their jobs and they should immediately be fired.

  His report was scathing to say the least. I put the "claw" hand in the above picture down to incompetent amateurs trying to depict motion but not knowing how to do it and managers with huge egos refusing to admit that something was done incorrectly.

  Oh, and this artist left the JW religion after seeing first hand what really goes on at Bethel.

  Has anyone seen the 4/15/2010 Watchtower with their own eyes?

  i haven't followed the generation change in the doctrine that closely, just read a few snippets of the overlapping generations doctrine.

  i find this hard to believe even for the pathological liars the governing body.. has anyone seen the 4/15/2010 watchtower with their own eyes?.

  can anyone validate that the wtbts really is saying this overlapping generation idea the way it is being quoted on the internet in a few places?

  I downloaded it and verified it. Yes, this is the official WT. Wow.

  More unbelievable than the snippet I posted above is this one:

  "we do well to
  keep in mind several things about the word
  “generation”: It usually refers to people of
  varying ages whose lives overlap during a
  particular time period".

  I looked up the word generation in multiple dictionaries and found ZERO definitions like "refers to people of varying ages whose lives overlap during a particular time period". None of the definitions of the word generation that I found have anything like that meaning at all.

  Now the WTBTS is just making up word defnitions. Geeesh.

  This seems too incredible even for the WTBTS.

  Taking Sodium Seriously!

  i am, along with my wife, trying to find creative ways to lower our sodium intake.

  the aha recommends a diet consisting of less than 1500 mg of sodium daily - yet most americans eat at least twice that.

  i believe now, having spent most of a morning looking through grocer shelves to determine sodium levels, that twice the level might actually be a very low estimate.

  Sea salt contains all the minerals that are in the human body in the same ratio. I stopped using table salt and starting using sea salt years ago. You can find sea salt at any good health food store. Whole Paycheck (Whole Foods) carries it. Make sure that you get unprocessed sea salt. Sea salt in its natural form is lumpy and still has moisture in it so it is not free flowing like table salt. It also has a greyish color.

  There is another product called real salt which is mined from an old sea bed in Utah (I think), it is still sea salt, just comes from a different place. I think you have to order real salt online, I haven't seen it in the stores in a while.

  Disfellowshipping, what else can they do in a case like this one? .....

  okay, the disfellowshipping doctrine is inhumane, usually.

  but, i remember a "brother" in jacksonville, florida, can't remember his name, i was 17 at the time, i think he was 18. this scumbag claimed to be a jehovah's witness.

  we went to the same school.

  But, I remember a "brother" in Jacksonville, Florida, can't remember his name, I was 17 at the time, I think he was 18. This scumbag claimed to be a Jehovah's Witness. We went to the same school. We didn't sociaize in the same circles but I knew him (he was in my congregatin) and had strong reason to believe that this scumbag was:

  1) a drug dealer,

  2) preyed on younger girls sexually

  3) an armed robber

  4) had assaulted numerous smaller, younger, weaker people

  5) was a pathological liar

  well, the list could go on.

  He was found out eventually and disfellowshipped, and good riddance, he was found out by being arrested for drug dealing on school property (he was convicted).

  The guy was dangerous because he came across as this sweet, good natured, zealous, spritual Christain (JW) but once he got young people off away from their friends, family,and peers he tried (usually successfully) to bring them into his world.

  So, here is my question.

  In a case where you have a person who is incorrigible and purposely hides his true nature in order to be accepted by spiritual people when his motivation is to corrupt those who are not worldly wise, what should the congregation do about it? If you say that disfellowshipping is unacceptable, then what do they do in a case like this?

  I am purposely contrasting this scumbag with normal young people who are just being normal kids. I wouldn't want to see disfellowshipping in cases where a person made a mistake or is just being human, but this scumbag was EVIL. The congregation would have to do SOMTHING to protect themselves from this person. So, if not disfellowshipping, what?

  So, what say you?

  Over half the world population have never heard of Jehovah's Witnesses

  just looked through some of the largest populations in the world and ten of them add up to 3,500,000,000. how many witnesses serve these 10 countries.

  no more than 60,000. the largest are china and india which together have around 2.5 billion people.

  so is the jw good news being spread earthwide.

  The ratio who have not heard of Jehovah's Witnesses is FAR higher than 50%. I have lived and traveled extensively in the 3rd world, I met very few people outside of major cities who had ever heard of Jehovah's Witnesses. I met NO ONE in Papua New Guinea who had ever heard of them. Same goes for Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan. My brother also travels extensively in the 3rd world. He says the same thing.

  As for America goes, anytime I mention Jehovah's Witnesses to people they either act like I just said "Assyrians", in that yes they have heard the term but have no idea what the people might be like, or they say "Oh the cult".

  I'm not a Christain, but it seems to me that if the door to door preaching work was a "God directed" work as the WTBTS claims then all those billions of hours spent in the door to door work might at least result in people being educated as to what the Good News that they are supposedly preaching actually is.

  This isn't the first time (or the last that the WTBTS has changed its policies in order to contravene tax laws. In 1989, they filed amicus curiae (a friend of the court legal brief) in support of Swaggart's position in a court case involving the collection (and payment to the government) of sales tax on religious literature. In January of 1990 the court rules against Swaggart. One month after that the WTBTS came up with its "voluntary donation" basis for payment for magazines and books. BUT, the publisher is responsible to "voluntarily" donate the full sales price amount for the books and magazines if the "voluntary" donations don't cover it. Awwww the love.

  So, the WTBTS acted in concert with someone they claim to be a member of false religion and they purposely and actively opposed the law (so much for the book of Romans), and then came up with this mandatory voluntary donation scheme to circumvent the law.

  Scumbags.

  I would be interested in hearing from an active JW beleiver an explanation of this one.

  My children's house burned, how "worldly" people are responding...

  i have three daughters, aged 26, 20, and 17. the house they live in (with their mother, my ex wife) is a house that i bought for them, i paid off the mortgage and deeded the house to my ex wife and told her that i wanted the children to have a home that they would not have to worry about losing.

  that was 14 years ago.

  i did not want my ex to suffer due to the divorce so i gave her that house free and clear.

  Who would be smarmy enough to make up lies involving their children? gawd. even JWs can't be THAT hard hearted? can they?

  I told my oldest daughter that this shoudl be a movie. "Teenage Power" because basicallly it is a bunch of teenagers doing most of the work.
