I agree Imarx. Jw's pull out random scriptures to a prove whatever point they want to at the time. When you spend as much time as a JW being indoctrinated, you end up in a better position than most at making your views and Bible knowledge look valid. The Bible is just full of contradictions anyway so it is hardly surprising the world is full of scraping religions.

Contradiction in scripture and equality
by iMARX inokay so i've just found a scripture that totally condraticts what the jws preach and also a lot of equality laws.. proverbs 22:29 talks about if a man is skilled enough in his trade then he will no longer need to slave for the common people, he can serve kings.. so the bible is telling jws and christians to pursue their secular work and time so they need no longer "slave" for the working classes.
not only does this reinforce capitalism but it also goes against putting jehovah first and his workship.. i don't get it!!!.
i thought jws were supposed to treat everyone the same.

Non-beleiving partners, are you getting your JW partner something for Valentine's?
by garyneal ini figured that although my wife is busy getting herself ready for baptism, answering the pre-baptismal questions and all, i would still get her something for valentine's day.
i wanted to give it to her at work and give her some 'bragging rights' with her female co-workers but it did not work out.
any others like me planning to do the same for their jw partner?.

What happened to your marriage after you stopped believing?
by JerkhovahsWitless ini know some posters here went through or are going through some painful things right now because of no longer believing when they have a husband / wife that still does.
others were able to free the minds of their spouse.
i'm assuming the latter is a lot more rare.. anyone that wishes to share their story, please do.. i'm looking to pass the info on to someone who doesn't totally believe, but may marry a jw.

Since I left I hardly see my husband who is still a wt slave. I am always always always second best. Actually I am probably about tenth best behind, meetings, ministry, bible students, personal study, the elders, the congregation, congregation social events, assemblies and visiting individuals in the congregation. Anyone marrying a jw doesnt just marry a person, they marry an organisation.

How long before you stopped believing armageddon was on your doorstep?
by bubba flavel ini was born into "the truth" back in 1964. i made the big mistake of getting baptised when i was about 14 or so, purely to please my father as i saw how proud he was when my brothers were baptised....didn't work.. we moved to a new congregation when i was about 8, he introduced all my brothers to the congregation by name, a short bio of thier endearing qualities and how proud he was of them, when he introduced me it was "and this is our black sheep of the family, steve".. i remember living in fear at the fast approaching 1975....actually, living in terror is probably a more apt desciption.
all of you will full well know how it was instilled into us at every meeting and assembly how we are living in the last days.. as a 15 year old, a brother dobbed me in for kissing a worldly girl at school.
went through the marked process, judicial committy, disfellowshipped and the shunning which continues to this day by what's left of my family.

I agree with what another poster said - i too stopped caring before I stopped believing. If some 'loving god' wants to destroy me and the vast majority of the population for not bowing to watchtower policy then bring it on!

Did you suffer from panic attacks in the borg?

No but I suffered terrible depression. I blamed it on everything and never suspected whilst I was in that being a dub was the problem. When I left, so did my depression. It hasn't returned in 8 the months Ive been out. There were so many in my cong with depression or other mental health issues. I am positive dubs suffer far more from mental health problems than the average, and I am sure many dubs dont realise it is because of their religion.

Who do you pray when you feel the need to pray if you dont believe in God?
by cyberjesus insometimes when we face difficult situations i feel the need to pray to god for help, and i know that plenty of times the sole act of praying makes you feel hope and have a better outcome of the situation.
you can call it suggestive or that you prepare a positive scenario by using faith.
the outcome is that regardless if there is someone who listens or not to your prayers oftentimes you feel better afterwards and have more positive attitude.. the problem is that i dont believe in god anymore.

I dont pray but sometimes when in a difficult situation I find myself starting to pray. Old habits die hard! This happened recently. I teach and had to face a particularly rowdy group of 17 year olds. Before walking into the classroom I automatically started to pray and then thought 'shit that wont work'. So I prayed (jokingly) to a teddy bear attached to my car keys, 'please keep these kids quite and listening to me for the next hour, amen'. The class ran smoothly and no one messed about or gave me any problems. So I am praying to purple teddy bears from now on !!

by Weeping ini disagree on some doctrine with the organisation.

Weeping, welcome to the forum.
There are people in the 'world' like those bad pictures in the jw publications. It seems like you left the org and fell into such a crowd. The org paint a bad picture of what people are like who arent jws. In my opinion they describe a minority group. However, there is this big world out there of loving, kind and caring people. The kind of people who will still love you even if you dont want to be in their religion anymore.
I would consider myself almost atheist. The jury is out at the moment. I am still reading, researching, meditating, for want of a better word. Dont assume that people are atheist through lack of Bible knowledge. It was my abundant Bible knowledge that helped me change my views. The elders of my old cong think I became an unbeliever because of missing meetings and lack of association. In actual fact I became an unbeliever sitting right there in the kingdom hall each week thinking 'you must be joking, that cannot be right'.
I suggest you spend some time on here and ask questions. Also, if you can, try reading Richard Dawkins book 'The Greatest Show on Earth'. It explains much about evolution. His book 'The God Delusion' is also an excellent read.

ah creativhoney. Sorry I didnt post when you were lying awake. Not that I have anything special to say but as I was up messing about it would have been nice to say something. I have been in and out of many relationships like that during my life. Mostly because I didnt love myself enough. Looking back, the relationships werent so much about love, but about neediness and wanting to be loved. I am now married to a good man who doesnt treat me bad, but who I am not in love with. Another rushed relationship because I was scared to be on my own. So I am probably not the best person to give advice.
I think you are quite young and if I remember your photo correctly you are gorgeous. If I were you I would have some counselling, find something in in my life that I really love doing, and start to learn to love me. Also, do something for yourself everyday that makes you feel good.
