Attending my mum's JW wedding
by iMARX inso i have to go to my mum's jw wedding in 2 weeks.
it's not in a kh but there's still going to be about 40 jws there.
apparently it's "widely-known" that i'm gay and some jws have even told my mum that it's not wise to invite me because it will make other people (jws) feel uncomfortable.

How easy is it to pretend to be a spirtual JW?
by highdose infor arguements sake, lets say you walk into a hall where you are not known and introduce yourself as one of them, how easy would it be to pass yourself off as a fully paid up devout dub?.
i reckon i could do it even now, pull out a doudy dress, look misarble, say all the right things and thanks to jwn i'm in the know about all the most recent developments.

Well I pretended for a long time in my own cong and nobody guessed, so fooling strangers would be a doddle.

How "worldly" people REALLY view Jehovah's Witnesses
by HappyGuy inwhen you are a jw it is pounded into your head that the "world" hates you, wants to kill you, runs around saying all kinds of horrible things about you, and would take away all your rights, freedom of religion, etc, if it could.. when i first left the wtbts organization i told "worldly" friends and family about being a jehovah's witness.
not one of them said anything disrespectful, rude, insulting, or even unkind in any way.
i could just as well have said "i'm a baptist", or "i like comic books".. a few people who know that the wtbts is a cult were concerned over my emotional health, but that was out of a sense of friendship.. i have never met anyone who on hearing the phrase "jehovah's witness" got upset or said "those xxxxx".

Worldtraveller - what I said wasnt inaccurate. I was/am shunned. I was told I was an apostate for joining the witnesses and that as I had 'forsaken Jesus' then my friends could no longer talk to me. They havent since I have been a witness. It is nothing to do with witnessing to them. When I first joined jws I tried to, but was bombarded with stuff from them - books, magazines, tracts and goodness knows what else. Then when that didnt work they shunned me. I live in a small village where my old church friends walk past me and dont talk, just like the witnesses will at some point in the future. I dont think it would have been a problem had I just left. It was specifically bec I became a dub.

did you go on the ministry in bad weather?
by highdose ini can remember being in the freezing snow and so cold my fingers were numb, i desparatly wanted someone to invite me in, just to warm up even, but no one did.. i got soaked on countless occasions having been dropped off in some remote corner of the territory, trying to find shelter in a thunderstorm.. i got burnt to a crisp in just half an hour in a uk heatwave, of course no one was at home... they were all far more sensible and had gone to the beach!.

Yeah, pouring rain where I could hardly hold literature before it was soaked through. One man said 'you are bonkers you are' and slammed the door. There were lots of people home that day though!

Well my experience was a bit different. I was raised going to church. Went all my life until I became a witness. I then had many well meaning friends trying to show me the error of my ways. Eventually when they realised I wasnt going to change my mind, they became really nasty, and they shunned me. So there you go. Not much different from the dubs after all. Mind you, the difference now being, they would probably welcome me back with open arms.

Did you ever think you would end up here?
by highdose inmeaning... on this website, no longer a jw or at least no longer beliving anymore?
i never did, even 18 months ago it would have seemed impossible, unthinkable.
even though looking back the seeds of doubt had been sown for some time, i just never allowed myself to think about them... vvv dangerous thing to do!.

Introduction
by Lekore ini thought i'd introduce myself, i haven't been to the faux-truth in about 6 years now so i'm merely a small child to the 'real world.
' i grew up in said religion and attended two english speaking congregations and lastly a sign language congregation in britain.
i think this gives away my identity to some friends i have on here ;).
