william - you are right about that. I wonder how it usually pans out. The kids are too busy peddling watchtowers to help their elderly parents. The elderly parents in turn read the article about giving all their possessions to the WT when they die so they get a better reward in the new world. I wonder if the pioneer couple that are washing windows and living in a singlewide are gleaming with joy that their parents followed the faithful slaves advice as well by cutting them out of the will and sending it all to the WT.

Full-time service is MORE IMPORTANT than taking care of elderly parents!!! It says so in the Sept 2014 WT
by EndofMysteries inparagraph 20 out of the article in the sept 2014 study wt about fulltime service says this.... .
"full-time servants age, and so do their parents.
when parents are witnesses, likely their fondest wish is for their children to stay in their assignments.

Sept 2014 WT study highlights ("Love all the work, including sweeping the floor")
by EndofMysteries indon't mind the corrections i made with some of the quotes, the wt obviously doesn't proofread for accuracy.
under the article about "are you convinced you have the truth" they say this about disfellowshippings...... "thus, during the modern-day history of jehovahs witnesses, relatively few many have had to be been expelled from the christian fellowship because they would not conform to gods the governing body's standards.
this is a good one!....under an article about reaching out, (since they need to replace all those waking up, they give some tips on how to get promoted), my favorite quote..... "love all the work you are given to do in the congregation, including sweeping the floor.".

Other then in the Sept 2014 WT of the simplified edition "missing" the article about 'reaching out' (I guess they don't want people who use the simplified version 'reaching out'), the simplified and study edition seem pretty much identical.
But I'm surprised about them not having the 'reaching out' article in the simplified version. I suppose they think that "sweeping floors" requires somebody with an IQ too high if they need to use the simplified version.

Elders Can't Simply Go Back to Being Ministerial Servants...
by TTATTelder inas a currently serving "awake" elder caught in the web of family, spouse, employer, etc.
etc..... i have often wondered why an elder cannot simply drop back to ministerial servant if he so desired (because of stress, circumstances, health).. on paper a currently serving elder in good standing more than qualifies to be a ms. that is obviously the case by their own hierarchy structure and definitions of qualification.. but...under their current arrangement....theoretically a man could give a district convention talk one week to 10,000 people, step down as an elder the following day due to stress, and not "qualify" to give a 5 min part on the next week's service meeting in front of 50 people.
doesn't make a lot of sense.. so my question is this.....why do you think the wt forces a man to drop all the way "down" to publisher if he no longer wants to serve as an elder?.

Exactly what "anddontcaremyshirelysaid". In the Sept 2014 STUDY WT, they say that you should "LOVE all your assignments, including sweeping the floor!" They want it's members to LOVE sweeping the floor, washing windows, scrubbing toilets, as they work their way up so they know if they can make them LOVE doing those things then they have full control. If they won't give all of their life as an elder then they won't let them just step down or downgrade a level.

Paragraph 20 out of the article in the Sept 2014 study WT about fulltime service says this...
"Full-time servants age, and so do their parents. When parents are Witnesses, likely their fondest wish is for their children to stay in their assignments. ( 3 John 4 ) Of course, if their parents need care, full-time servants will do all they can and will come to help them as often as possible. Still, those back home may help those in the full-time ministry by being ready to provide care if aging parents need assistance. Bear in mind that full-time servants have significant responsibilities in the most important work the world has ever known. ( Matt. 28:19, 20 ) Could you or your congregation lend a hand if the parents of full-time servants need help?"
Pretty much my understanding of this doctrine is now this......Do NOT save or plan for retirement because the end is SO CLOSE, and don't have your kids save or plan for retirement. Spend all your time placing watchtower magazines. When you get old and need care and are unable to afford proper care due to not planning for retirement, your kids can help ONLY with their 'extra spare time' BUT their first priority is continuing to place magazines full time. The scripture about caring for aging parents and providing for those of your own household doesn't apply because the faithful and discreet slave say placing magazines is more important!

The pope apologized to a group today -- has the GB ever done that?
by FatFreek 2005 ini understand that the group was comprised of sex abuse victims at the hands of church clergy.
that got me to thinking -- has the gb ever apologized to the flock?
its teachings that are compulsory have been relaxed numerous times over the years.

Nope, never have and never will. If they attempted to apologize it would be something like this......"Jehovah's Witnesses have at times been too zealous in protecting Jehovah's name and tried to keep sexual abuse cases confined to the congregation", etc. They will always demand absolute obeidience and when things go wrong it's everyone elses fault because they shouldn't have obeyed them like they asked, etc.

I'm shocked!! I think I found the REAL reason for no voting, for tons of preaching and no public charity!! The IRS and taxes!
by EndofMysteries inthe wt controls every part of it's members lives.
now if they really allowed voting, then obviously since they have the only channel to god, they would be expected to provide guidance as to who is the best candidate and best party, etc.
well, if you look in the irs booklet for tax exempt organizations, including religions and churches over here, go to page 5, "jeopordizing tax exempt status".

On those who brought out that lots of religions allow it's adherents to vote. The reason this is a key issue w/ the WT though is because those other religious organizations are very broad and not controlling.
Those other organizations don't control every little aspect of it's adherents lives. The WT goes as far as how loud to play music at weddings, how many should be invited to a wedding, what board games are acceptable or not. Voting is a BIG THING. ANd for a religion that is God's direct channel, they can't be telling people God's will on using 1 paper towel at meetings and not able to give direction on God's will for voting should the members be allowed. It would show either A. The GB fear man and reprecussions for giving an answer like they do for everything else. B. If they don't have to lead on that, then why are they leading on everythign else in their lives?
The field service time reporting is a very good point I hadn't thought of.

cofty - if the WT only provided meetings and no literature and no placing of literature then how would they account for all the donations and money they ask for? The literature is the way for them to keep all the money. It's like the charities where 99.5% is spent on direct mail campaigns and those running the charities happen to own the direct mail companies they send the checks to to provide that service.

I always associate the BORG with the star trek race. "You will be assimulated. Resistence if futile."
Anybody who joins the BORG(WT) version has their personality and life stripped into a clone of agreeing and kissing the GB as window washers publishing their utterances as holier than the bible. ANd just like the borg, those who are assimulated into the Org then go on doing the same thing.
