for me, it was when they kicked out ray franz and ed dunlap.. .
i knew about the reform movement they started through ed's brother - and stupidly believed it could work.. .
the clouds were truly parted and i could see it for what it was when they were ejected for nothing but trying to ask for biblical reform.. .
Would be an interesting read. I had two nephews in NY Bethel at about that time but they are still vey active so they would not tell me anything if they knew anything to tell.
I agree it would be an interesting read.
I feel that after reading CoC and ISoCF there's still a lot of details that could come out of the time just before and during the "GB crackdown".
James personal knowledge of the Dunlaps is very valuable and something that would be an excellent insight to consider. It may help others to chime in.
Maybe Randy can add more to the story too.

Hi James,
Thanks for explaining a bit about the reforms that they wanted to make.
One would think that indeed the GB would be open to "solid scriptural principles" and want to make the WT religion well founded on what the Bible teaches. But of course we now know better.
If you would please tell about your experiences and what you remember those times being like. There were so many rumors, and still are about Ray and Ed.
Thanks for being willing to share your recollections. I'm thinking there are quite a few here on JWN that would like to read more about this too.
With best regards always,

Hi James, please give some details about this. I've read both CoC and ISoCF by Ray and listened to Ed's tapes on his experice through the JC, but don't remember there being a "reform movement" per se. I know a lot of the Spanish brothers were questioned, but did they actually discover a "reform movement". There was one snitch who stretched and stretched the truth of what was going on and it's intent from what I've gathered.
An elder who was in Bethel at the time told me they were having separate "bookstudies" in people's dorm rooms at Bethel. Is this what you mean by there being a reform movement.
Maybe I'm reading too much into your comment. There were indeed brothers who were trying to approach the Bible through personal study and sharing with others, but no definite movement was formed, I thought. Although, that's exactly what the rest of the Governing Body seems to have been worried about.
Coming on the heels of the WT Presidency losing a lot of it's muscle, maybe the Governing Body thought some more "reforms" would decrease their new found power.
But I'm definitely interested in what details you can share about this time of upheaval at HQ.
With best regards,
Oppo
so if its true that a new 2012 version of the new world translation is to be released at this year's dc what changes do you think they will have made?.
don't forget your square brackets for interpolations.. .
"this good news of the kingdom will be preached to all the [developed] world and then the end will come" - matt 24:14.
I don't think the new NWT will have much in the way of re-wording... Just the same old - same old - NWT minus square brackets repackaged with a little bling eye candy!
Sometime ago ( http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/224140/1/So-wonderful-little-and-other-punctuation )
I mentioned these new blinged out NWT versions that the GB and some preferred travelling overseers were sporting last year at the District Convention. (There be pictures on Facebook!)
The Bibles versions they carried were a bit fatter because they included the appendices of the reference bible but in the deluxe leatherette size.
Maybe the marketing guys at Bethel decided that grey and silver may appeal more (than the black or maroon gold edged) to the ever more elderly and passing away generation that was promised to already be in a paradise earth.
post 51 of 52. since 3/27/2009.
google_ad_section_start i can't verify the authenticity of this information as i have not personally attended.
however this is what is posted on another site.. friday:.

Apart from the missing square brackets I didn't see any changes nor did I have much time to look for any, just a brief thumb through, but the quality feel of the leather like cover is much softer and the gilding is silver not golden.
That's the only new version of the NWT that I've seen around and wouldn't be surprised if that's the new version release. The same old - same old - repackaged with a little bling eye candy!

i just learned the the kingdom halls have a coded phone number for listening in on the sunday meetings.
for my area the phone number is 623-748-1908. when it asks you for the code dial 623293. you can enter the number of listeners and you are counted in attendance.
i just wanted to let everyone here know and see what everyone's thought's were..
the pin numbers from KHCONF are usually the area code followed by three more numbers.
There's an administrator pin that establishes the conference.
There's also an attendant pin that gives you the total number of listeners.
Then there's two other pins, one for listening only and one for listening and commenting.
If they change the listening pin they usually don't change the other pins.
It may take some time and repeated dialing, but you could guess at the last three numbers after the area code and get in on the conference with luck.
The local administrator of the account can log into https://report.khconf.com/
and see who called in and for how long. If they see any strange numbers, like
numbers outside the area code they'll try to do a reverse look up to see who the
phone belongs to, and if they can't find out they will discuss the need to change
the pin number, then publishers who want to listen in have to call the Coordinator
for the new pin before the meeting. That's the standard procedure locally.
sooo i was a ministerial servant (omg a ministerial servant on this site!?
you apostate!!!
) yea yea i just wanted to see what other people think and whatever, coz i had a few questions myself, (butttt its not like i was about to start throwing them with rocks and stuff, they arent that bad).
Send a letter telling them that humility forces you to request they no longer keep you on the list as a Ministerial Servant.
Say that you've been overwhelmed by circumstances and feeling depressed about things.
Explain in few words that you appreciate their help and counsel but it's something you need to work on.
Thank them for their concern.
Then celebrate your freedom from slavery to a hierarchical system that denigrates individuality.
somewhat of a turning point occurred for me in 1966 when life everlasting in freedom of the sons of god book was released at the assemblies that year.
this you may know was the book that calculated 1975 would end 6000 years of humanity on earth possibly leaving the "thousand years" of revelation to complete the 7000-year "creative day.
" jehovah's witnesses jumped on this implication as "new light" with enormous enthusiasm.
Well, living sequestered in the cloistered life of Brooklyn Bethel may have lead to wild and speculative fantasies and titilating fetishes.
my wife and i got a letter sent to me stating we are being called before a judical hearing to discuss allegations of apostasy!
we haven't gone to the meeting in 5 years.
are the jw's on a witchhunt lately?
Here's a DA letter that was posted on JWN some time ago. What do you think of it? Would it help? Would the hounders get off your back if they received something like this?
This law firm has been retained by "X" to remove his/her good name
from your roster and all records on account of his/her wishes to no
longer be a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses religion. Per request
of my client, this letter will serve as "X's" formal notification of
his/her intent. It is of great concern that it is your common practice to make formal
announcements of this sort public in an effort to stop family and
friends from ever associating with him/her again, despite the fact
s/he desires this decision for his/her own person only. With this
concern it is of great importance that you understand defamation of
character is a serious offence punishable under both state and federal
law. Therefore it is this firm's demand that any public or private
discussion that demeans the good name of "X" either in the near or
distant future will be met with legal action. As with all cases, our goal is satisfaction of both parties if at all
possible. We trust you understand that dissatisfaction for our client
can only be experienced by purposeful, hurtful and unnessary action on
your part.
