What’s the deal with all the Smart-Educated JWs?

we talk a lot about most jws being uneducated, uninformed, and that they lack critical thinking skills, but in my area there is a lot of jws that went to the university, medical school, law school, and came back to the organization.

in my circuit, that i know of, we had two electrical engineers, one computer engineer with a ph.d. eight teachers with a bachelors degree and three of those with a masters in education.

we had two medical doctors, one was a pediatrician who closed his business about 3 years ago and went to bethel.

I will eat my hat the day you get a European with a masters or phd in philosophy become a JW.

I'm originally from Spain, got my terminal degree in Education (Ed.D.) in the U.K. -- does that qualify for being an European JW?

Actually, I've moved to the States (Massachusetts) where I'm currently working as an Academic Technology Specialist. I was bapt. after I'd had gotten my B.A., got my M.Ed. while serving as an elder--Then the letter about "if an elder or elder's children go to uni' they may no longer qualify for responsibilities and blah-blah-blah" and that helped me start to wake up, go back to school and get my Doctorate's Degree.

Maybe that explanation absolves you from the hat-eating experience. If not, bon-appetit.

the prime minister of england made the above statement yesterday regarding any schools that influence youths in a negative manner.. he went on to say that if youths are influenced in a negative manner regarding religious teachings that promote judgement of others (including same sex relationships, etc ) or that look down on other peoples free choice, the government would take action.. i cant find a newspaper article sorry...i just heard it on the radio news.... very interesting though...it may have a bearing on how those who learn ttatt are treated by the organization??

Is disfellowshipping a loving arrangement?

i read this post, i voted and the ones saying it is a loving arrangement is over 68%, i am mind blown - what fool can think it is a loving arrangement.

lets teach them that is it not thought of as loving...your chance to let these people know if dis-fellowshipping is a loving arrangement!..

WT Society SEC Records : Hedge Funds, Cayman Islands, Financial Losses - Links

so my wife and i were curious so i researched some financial links and found records indicating that the wt society has been operating at a loss since the year 2012. as you read the links it shows a loss of 10 million $$$ in 2012, about 16 million $$$ in 2013, and a whopping loss of 56 million $$$ in 2014 - where the expenditures exceeded the revenues for each of those years in the amount i've mentioned.

also there is a link on this same website with the sec records indicating that the wt society and it's representatives funneled 40 million $$$$ into hedge funds in the cayman islands as early as 2007. if you look online on other sites you can see evidence that indicates the wt society attended hedge fund conferences to look into more shadiness in 2011 and isn't it curious that by 2012 the wt society started showing losses.

All I see, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is the Canadian Branch declared a loss on paper because they transferred their money to HQ.

Which was also the case with the Australian Branch sending donations/contributions to the U.S.

So what is Worldwide HQ spending the money on? Warwick? Hedge funds? I don't see where that much cash is going.

Their forgiving of KH loans we know is false. To say you forgive a loan then take whatever they have saved up in a bank and on top of that demand a monthly payment equal or above what they were paying before is just lying pure and simple.

If you show a loss because you "forgave" those loans then that's another lie.

I think they're just lying and making the R&F panic thinking that Momma WT doesn't have enough money to pay her bills.

I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't understand how they're spending it all. Where's all the money going now that they had plenty of before?

Are Circuit Overseers next?

last year saw the elimination of the district overseer...and circuit overseers now must retire at 70. how long until the circuit overseer is no more?

of course, the role might still exist, they would simply not get paid.

they would have to care for their own expenses.

there is no reason a CO can't be an elder from a local congregation. I've seen this many times.

That's what the HQ discussed with Spanish speaking Branch reps. A sort of City Overseer / Region Overseer arrangement. The info was leaked before everything had coalesced into the current situation with letting the DO's go and making the CO's have more responsibilities.

All It Takes Is ONE!

ive been reading all these posts about bethelites and special pioneers being kicked out in the street and being forced to get a job to provide for themselves..

and im trying to put myself in their situation and feel the emotions that must be going through their mind.

what if my wife and i both dropped out of school to pioneer and got married at 18. and what if we were very faithful in listening to everything the organization says.

Question - thoughts on explaining your fading to teachers?

weird/odd question, but with our family fading, and our daughter in school how or should one approach teachers with this?

our child is a little too young to understand why we are fading, but it proves challenging in school as they have been, well brainwashed, to say i shouldn't do that etc... .

i don't like explaining anything to teachers about the fade, etc.

Teachers will keep in confidence something you've shared with them privately, just make sure you've also talked to the principal and they know you have done that. Breaking confidence is a big no-no.

Just explain yourself to them and they'll back you up in your decision to "normalize" your children's experience. If you have this talk with them you may just be able to open their eyes to the harmful effects of the wt cult.

But definitely talk to the principal first and let them know that any concerns you share with them about your situation are to be considered confidential.
