  i realize this is odd, but a "how you woke up" thread and the personal stories that are told which i know we all enjoy, made me think of this.

  in helping my wife and a couple others get the ball rolling, i realized the thing that resonated with me, didn't even move the needle with them.

  i wanted to rail on and on about blood, because that was my conduit to waking up, but for my wife it was about shunning.

  free from the mind-f¥¢k of wt indoctrination it is ever so clear that any aspiration one may have entertained was always judged to be bad or selfish, worldly and only those goals in accord with wt teaching were approved and encouraged.. one example was having to look for a new job and being told by an elder that my change of employment was an opportunity to pioneer.

  when i shared with him that my first priority was to find work that would afford me to keep food on the table and pay the mortgage, he went on about jesus not having a place to lay down his head and the hebrew patriarch abraham living in tents like a temporary resident in the promised land--this coming from a guy who lived in a $500,000 home and who thought himself as a contractor, subcontracting rather than hiring as employees, other brothers to work for him for very low pay, and enriching himself with the sweat of fellow dubs who had little education and who would often aux.

  pioneer so they seemed very theocratic and held up as exemplary by appointed exploiters like him.. were you ever in a similar situation?.

  I also have a theory that part of the reason the religion is against college/careers is because it wants desperate people to work for low wage jobs for brothers with businesses. The brothers probably give money to the religion, do favors for COs etc., get "praise" and then get poor chumps to work for them.

  Wow, LHG, I hadn't considered that angle, the donations by the rich ones in the congregation, in this context. But you're most definitely right.

  There always seemed to be someone in the congregation who was into the subcontracting instead of hiring employees situation in all the congregations I've ever been with.

  By subcontracting they avoid paying workman's comp and all sort of other taxes, soc-sec etc.

  One CO's wife who was very chummy with the well to do in the congregations, going out for coffee with her little wealthy cliques, and who was fond of telling everyone about her dinners and night outs with her hubby and trips abroad, vacations thanks to so-and-so, said "Well, the Bible says that you will always have the poor among you..." in reference to why she spent so much time with the well to do and why there were economic clique divisions in the congregation. What a snooty, mean-hearted, and uncaring person she turned out to be during those three years!

  As a dub you cannot aspire to much other than cult approved hierarchical advancement, other than that every other aspiration is made up to be unadvisable!

  Bible on cassette

  one thing that i questioned years ago was the release of bible reading so you could listen.

  then when we finally got a tape it was in a thick german accent.

  Russia Threatens to Target US Jets in Syria

  on sunday a us jet shot down a syrian military government fighter plane after it dropped bombs close to us backed kurdish soldiers.. russia who backs erdogan has reacted with a threat to target us jets over syria and withdraw from communication arrangements designed to prevent us - russian conflict in the region.. the threat of a hot war between the usa and russia is growing rapidly....

  No, they don't. I'm afraid you're mistaken, Cofty.

  Russia backs Assad, (Bashar Hafez al-Assad). He is the 19th and current President of Syria and a ruthless dictator that murders his own people.

  Erdogan (Recep Tayyip Erdoğan) is the current President of Turkey, and has been since 2014, despite an attempted coup not long ago. He's actually supposed to be an ally of the U.S. against Daesh but he also hates the Kurdish fighters who are part of the Syrian Coalition fighting against Daesh and the Syrian Regime of Assad.

  What is behind your choice of forum user name?

  just curious how we all think.. what prompted or influenced your choice of username for this forum?.

  there are some really amazing names, and it would be great to hear the stories behind them.... mine was nothing fancy.

  i just felt "stuck in a rut too" along with so many others.

  Is there Some YouTube shenanigans going on?

  i won't name the youtube channels yet but i noticed something while listening to them.

  both channels were christian in there title both had a married couple that had both woke up and left.

  both first started waking by up when the man out in service came a cross a wonderful christian family and they explained their lives followers of christ and doing missionary work etc.. both couples wanted to pray for or with the jws at their door but it didn't happen.

  Cooperation and Conformity

  a common thing that jws point to as proof of god's blessing is the supposed cooperation between people of many different backgrounds.

  however, i think there should be a distinction drawn between collaborations that are performed through true tolerance and open-mindedness towards another's point of view, and collaborations that are the result of a high level of conformity by its participants.. the former sort can be seen, for example, in the un, which while not perfect, i believe does try its best to foster true cooperation between people of all nations.

  the latter of sort of cooperation, however, is more akin to the type found in communist dictatorships or countries controlled predominantly by a single religion which doesn't care to protect the rights of those in the religious minority.

  I think it can be more difficult for a group of JWs to work collaboratively with non-JWs.

  Your mentioning this made me stop and think. And, I would tend to agree with you that JW's have a sort of conformity based on uniformity that would clash with non-JW mindsets. JWs like to think that they can collaborate with others, but really anything they are encouraged to do will be for the benefit of the 0rganization ultimately and completely.

  i've been watching "the handmaid's tale" and while disturbing i found it to be doubly so because i kept thinking "if the jws ever got control of a country is this what it would look like?

  " especially when it comes to the treatment of women as mere property.
