I had been inactive for over a year in a different city where pretty much nobody knew me, certainly nobody identified me as a JW, and they came after me - I sat through a JC with 3 men I had never met before (technically I had met one of them once when I first moved out here but that was it). It took them an hour and a half with someone they didn't know to decide I needed to go, then I appealed based on my inactivity for over a year and the elders' complete lack of interest in me until they heard a rumor from back home. So a second JC with 3 more men I had never met before and that didn't go very well.

Based on my experience, if somebody wants you out, they'll get you OUT. Had I known then what I know now, I would have refused the JC but I was still mentally trapped at the time and thought I had to go.

So if you took your kids trick or treating, I would be surprised if your JW husband wasn't on the phone with the elders while you were out.

the answer to this question is not that easy or obvious as you might think.

if your answer is "creationists" you are wrong, they are evolutionists a rare breed of evolutionists, but evolutionists at last .. at this stage of my argumentation you might think i have lost my mind for stating jehovahs witnesses are evolutionists, but this might be because you are thinking as the wt has taught you to think.

the wt has presented a distorted view of the theory of evolution.

My Muslim friend's and the Koran.

in another thread i raised the point " there are moderate muslims but their is no moderate islam".

now i must face the fact i have muslim friends who say they believe the koran.. well i have asked these muslim friends, if they have investigated the origins of the koran.

they have answerd " yes".

Islam is not a race, it's a religion that has many people in its grip. I don't understand how it's possible in 2014 to be all chill when it comes to a religion that teaches the kind of stuff this one does about how to treat women. I've said this before and I'll say it again - there is no way that it's ok to teach people that women need to be covered up in order to be acceptable. The WT prints something like 'women need to listen in silence' or 'apostates are mentally diseased' and the board erupts - rightly so and calls it what it is, hate speech. But somehow it's ok with Islam. I don't get it.

Has the WT somehow become more dangerous than Islam because you know someone who's a really nice Muslim? I know plenty of really nice Muslims and they're not the problem. Their religion IS a problem and I think we should all be able to tell the difference having come out of a destructive cult. Nice people doesn't mean their religion is nice or above critisism.

One Day assembly in Arizona- $17,000 !!

i heard from a reliable source that a one-day assembly in arizona last weekend had a "cost" to the publishers of $17,000.. predictably, the elders were nice enough to obligate the attendees to a $6,000 donation to wt before the assembly "costs" (i.e.

"rent/extortion) were even met.

$11,000 rent plus $6000 in extra "donations".

I used to wonder why expenses were so ridiculously high but trusted that nothing funny was going on and that there has to be a good reason. Boy, was I naive.

It's amazing to me how people who believe in creation will say that evolution over millions of years is absolutely impossible, but evolution over hundreds of years is plausible. The mental gymnastics this requires is astounding.

JW attitudes to women

i would be very interested to hear from you ladies on this one.

i know that the society keeps women in subjugation through the headship cr@p but didn't ahve any sense about hoew prehistoric the attitudes are until the other day when we were driving out of the supermarket car park and my wife spotted a woman dressed in tight shorts (it has been very hot here) and she commented 'they say that women who dress like that dserve to be raped'.

i did a wtf and overreacted 'how can you blame the victim like that - such attitudes give men a lciense to commit rape and make women feel they are to balme if they get raped which in turn means that rape doesn't get reported and it gopes on with impunity.

I know how difficult it can be to imagine your closest friends as your enemies, but there is such truth and sheer honesty in this verse because of how serious the matter is; Paradise or Hellfire.

Reading this makes me once again realize how important it is to keep women's issues a prominent topic of conversation among all varieties of religion. JW women will be told to 'let their husband take the lead', 'be supportive', 'win them without a word through exemplary behavior' and all sorts of other platitudes and Muslim women will be told that Allah wants them to wear the hijab, to cover up, to hide themselves from men, etc. The long and short of it is that in all of these polarizing forms of religion, women are treated like second class citizens - not truly as being valued and respected. So sad...
