Anyone who knows the franchise is probably familiar with the character Wedge Antilles. The actor who plays him kinda pissed me off when he apparently was approached for a part in the new movie and he turned it down because "it would just bore me". Really? When did you become George Clooney, bud? And when did the appreciation and respect for the only thing that gave you a measure of fame become something to trash? *rant over*
Anyway, just thought I'd throw this out there as a topic for all the other geeks on the forum.

Giant ship vs Noah's Ark
by Simon intake a look at this giant ship that's been built and imagine if would still be large enough to house all the animals on the planet for an extended period of time.. the ship, with modern materials and tools, would take a single person nearly 8,000 years to complete.
how many more people designed it and supplied the materials?
imagine how many trees would be required and how long it would take to transport them alone.. still think noah's ark is feasible?.

Hi gda :)
I have a question - if it requires magic to make it work in any way, why not just use magic to get rid of the bad people and avoid the flood altogether?

It is baffling that elementary logistics fly out the window when believers in the Noah's ark story defend it as real.
Those pictures really are amazing - the technology to assemble ships of this size is astounding!

Of course, anyone who has allowed critical thinking to be their 'go-to' method of absorbing information already knows that the story of Noah's ark is just a fairy tale. Anyone else won't be convinced - they can't allow that.

Officer Wilson not indicted in killing of Michael Brown
by Simon inafter a thorough investigation and weighing of the evidence the grand jury has decided not to indict the officer.. the reaction so far seems as predicted - people refuse to accept that the result represents justice despite claims that is what they wanted.. there is now violence and vandalism, including gunshots.
let's hope the police contain the troublemakers.. .

Race relations is a very thorny issue. There are cases where profiling is definitely a reality and programs like stop and frisk in NY don't help the situation. There are statistics regarding stop and frisk that go back years showing that nearly 90% of those frisked are completely innocent of anything. Only 9 to 11% of people frisked are white people and 54% are black and 31% are latino. I look at numbers like this and it's hard to argue that profiling doesn't happen. I do agree with most of what you're saying Simon, even though it's impossible to truly empathize with what minorities feel and how they perceive the world around them because this is based on so many variables.
In the Ferguson case, the media didn't do anyone any favors with how they intentionally whipped up a frenzy with the non stop sensationalism and speculation before actual facts were revealed. That's what sucks and the people of Ferguson are suffering for it.
