Does anyone else feel like an alien?
by bluecanary inyou guys remember the show third rock from the sun?
if you don't, a group of aliens take on human bodies and pose as a family on earth.
they try to fit in but get things wrong and hilarity ensues.. yesterday my family celebrated easter.

If its any consolation, I always felt like an outsider at the "get-togethers" I attended with my wife and step-daughter, since I was the only non-JW attending. Same thing when going over to dinner at a "friend's" house. The talk was always about what happened in service, what convention/special day was coming up, who was a great speaker at sunday's meeting, etc..
Of course, there was always feeling like an alien in my own house. No birthdays, holidays, etc., even though technically I'm still a Lutheran. I didn't see the celebration part as a huge sacrifice though, since it was mainly about family getting together and having a good time. So, my advice is that if you don't focus on the "fluff" part of the holidays, and just enjoy your family's company, then you are on the right path. The fluff part, such as doing Easter Eggs, Christmas trees, etc., are just fun things to do together.

Did the WTS ever teach a dirty look from a fellow Christian could be discipline from Jehovah?
by besty inanswer - why yes of course they did!.
discipline may come from someone else.
it may come as a look, a frown, a word, a gesture, a verbal reproof.
-
Scottiebear7
Perhaps this is why my "wife" would always give me dirty looks every time I cracked open a beer ........
Honestly though, she was the queen of dirty looks. Of course when I would ask what was wrong, she would say "nothing". Perhaps just a womanly thing, but I think further enhanced by the WTBT$.

Crimes Committed by Jehovah's Witnesses...... and Catholics, and Baptists and......
by AllTimeJeff inplease allow me a small opinion, sparked by some drum bangers who are determined to expose and "bring down" the wtbts.
one way that this is done is by attaching a persons religion to a crime report.. for example, rapists who are jw's are frequently brought up here.
child molesters and pedophiles.

You make a good point Jeff, but consider my ex-wife:
She transports illegal aliens solely for the purpose of having them attend WTBT$ meetings. This is against the law, a federal law. When I confronted her with that she agreed, but said that she was following "God's Law".
My ex-wife collects social security disability insurance for lower back problems, of which she had spinal fusion surgery on during the last year we were married. As her back healed, it became stronger than it had ever been in her life. Once healed, she spent as much time as possible, well over 40 hours/week, out witnessing, doing bible studies, etc.. I brought it up that if she could do all of that, it could be said that she was no longer disabled. She said that she couldn't work a regular job any more, so she was disabled, and that doing WTBT$ work was "different". I say, baloney. If she can hop in and out of cars all day long, walk house to house, sit for hours at a time, etc., there are many jobs that she can do. Basically, she is committing disability insurance fraud so that she doesn't have to waste time "working" and can spend her time proselytizing.
While these crimes do not rank up there with murder, rape, pedophilia, etc., they are still very serious crimes. And they are directly committed on the basis of furthering the WTBT$. I find myself torn at whether I should turn her ass in or not for doing both.
It's not that I wanted to prove you wrong, because I think you are absolutely correct in the point you make. I guess I'm just sickened at how the WTBT$ says that its members all follow the secular laws of the land, when in fact that's total bullsht. My ex-wife was never like that prior to rejoining the JW's.

My Son's JW Mom Sends Him Condescending "Guilt Inspiring" E-Mail
by flipper infirst of all- a little history.
my ex-wife a fanatic jw seems to be in a pissing match ( not of my choosing ) with me over trying to get my son back into the jw cult.
he's 25, been out of the witnesses since 17 and he is very happy with his life .he has a great girlfriend, he enjoys gardening growing his own vegetables and he is a performing singer/guitarist now writing songs and performing in front of hundreds of people .

Flipper,
are you sure your ex and my ex aren't twins? I have a similar situation where my step-son is 25, happily married, runs his own business, etc.. The kid is loving life, and he's the most honorable and likeable kid I know. You would think my ex-wife (his mom) would be happy, content, with that... HELL NO. LOL. She has pounded him with the guilt-trip stuff, but not as bad as your ex-wife. Your ex-wife is a real treat (spiritual food of course!).

What do you think Jesus really meant when he said......
by EndofMysteries inmark 12:24-27. forget answering the question about who marries who, but the statements he said....."is not this why you are mistaken, your not knowing the scriptures or the power of god?
" "but concerning the dead, that they are raised up, did you not read in the book of moses, in the account about the thornbush, how god said to him, 'i am the god of abraham and god of isaac and god of jacob'?
he is a god, not of the dead, but of the living.
-
Scottiebear7
He means those who are dead to HIM, meaning they've renounced God and Jesus. Living means you live your life through God and Jesus, and thus will have eternal life.

International Conventions = $$$$. WTBT$ in bed with South Korean government
by Mattieu ini remember the whole process of selecting a host city for australias last international convention.
the australian bethel played the nsw government against the victorian.
it was so similar to choosing an olympic city and the big boys from bethel knew how to play the game.

Wow, thank you for this topic!
I used to watch my wife and step-daughter fret over getting their hotel room for district conventions, special days, etc., and having to hear her tell me what a great deal they were getting because the hotels all knew the JW's would leave the place clean, and how much money they spent in the area. And you're right, the "deal" she got was not better than any other normal price, if not higher.
Having worked in a hotel in Utica, NY (never heard of it? not surprised!) I can tell you we were sold out just about every night between May and October. There is ALWAYS something going on, and it doesn't matter if its a JW convention or what (not that we ever had one). My point is, there's always SOMETHING going on, and the hotel will definitely fill their rooms.
So, as always, its all spoon-fed propaganda from the WBT$ to make their sheep feel like the mouthpiece of God is looking out for them. Excuse me while I go puke.

A serious question for Christians and Non-Christians: How Can Love Hate?
by sabastious in1 john 4:2 - whoever does not love does not know god, because god is love.. .
what does the statement "god is love" mean?
well quite simply that god = love.

I think it notable to point out, as some of the posters here have done, that there are an incredible number of inconsistencies in the Bible. Through the varied pulling of texts out of the Bible, the Watchtower would love to have you believe that there are not. That is why they dwell on specific passages, versus taking the whole context, the whole meaning of a book, into consideration. Were these inconsistencies mistakes? I don't think they specifically were... these were stories, traditions, history, etc. that were passed down by a culture of people. Do you honestly think Moses sat down and wrote the initial books of the bible? If he did, then how did he screw up the arrival of the ten commandments between Exodus and Deuteronomy?
So, to dwell on a phrase like "How can love hate"? That is WBTS thinking. Broaden your perspective.
PSac is correct... the whole reason Jesus died for our sins was to create a new covenant. It wasn't like "hey, I'm Jesus, I have nothing better to do, so I'll come down and teach a little, perform a miracle here and there, and then die on a cross and then become resurrected". There obviously was a need because the old teachings were being corrupted and used incorrectly, so Jesus came amongst us to set us straight. He also gave us a new commandment, which was to love our neighbors as ourselves, and I think a lot of people (notably the WBTS) forget that.
As far as the grammatical stuff goes: Love can be a noun and a verb, but God can only be used as a noun. So, no, you can not say "I God my wife", you are replacing a verb with a noun.
Good topic!

LMAO at this one! I agree, my wife ran out and bought a bunch of "emergency supplies" when a "talker" at one of her Sunday meetings told everyone that they needed to be prepared in a case of a natural disaster. The sheep, including my wife, believe everything without doing any research... as long as it comes out of a fellow baptised JW's mouth.
The good news is, this will be less funds that go into the donation boxes at the front of the KH! The sad thing is, I bet they won't learn their lesson, and see who is really to blame here for their naivety.

Transporting Illegal Aliens
by Scottiebear7 ini wanted to get your take on this:.
one night, i was sitting home watching tv while my wife and stepdaughter were at their thursday km meeting, when i got a phone call from a number i didn't recognize.
mind you, i'm not a witness, never was, certainly never will be.

You're right B_Deserter... my after the first few bible studies, my wife and her friend would bring a male member of their KH to come and sit with them while conducting the study. They were bored as hell because they could not understand Spanish one bit.
Though I questioned what happened when she would drive 10 miles east to pick the immigrants up, then another 25 miles West to take them to the KH, and then all back again, I never really got a straight answer (I'm sure that comes as no suprise). My impression was that my wife's friend's son was also in the car (he's 18). I do know they made side trips to Walmart so that the guys could shop also.
My belief is that the rules were "bent" in this case because my wife and her friend were the only ones who could speak spanish. I kept asking when a "brother" was going to take over the studies, and kept getting told they couldn't find one to do so. That there was such a big "need" that they couldn't pass up this opportunity.
It was amazing the amount of names that were being passed on to my wife for possible spanish bible studies. I know she felt overwhelmed, and at the same time she stopped cooking, very little cleaning, laundry put off, etc.. I tried to help out on the weekends and then got criticized for helping out... but at the same time I needed clothes for work for the week, shirts ironed, etc., and didn't see it getting done by her.
I guess the bottom line is that marriage is secondary when it comes to proselytizing, especially when you're married to a "worldly" man like me. Hence, I put up with it for about a year, and after five years of marriage I moved out. In good conscience, I could not support the WBTS anymore, even if I was doing so in a secondary nature since I was paying all the bills and providing her a headquarters for her service work... with no benefit being directed back towards me.
Thanks for letting me vent!
