  I have to brag about my kid

  alex, our youngest graduated cum laude from the university of washington today with a bachelor's in environmental science and a minor in quantitative analysis.

  he has a job in his field.

  he and his fiance, who also graduated today (biology) are getting married july 1. she's starting a phd program at berkeley in august, so they're moving.

  I think as you recover you need the board less for yourself. You care less about what the society produces but you still care about those you love and care about trapped inside. You are here for others and less for you.

  Planning an Escape: Truth Triumphs Over Lies!

  often during wt/book studies and/or public talks i would be following along and note little discrepancies and inconsistencies.

  perhaps it was a scripture that didn't really support the point being asserted in the paragraph or maybe it was an illustration that sounded good but wasn't completely parallel or maybe it was a line of reasoning that wasn't as conclusive or solid as the speaker/elder/co/wt publication made it out to be.

  or maybe it was the excessive use of weasel words like, "evidently," "perhaps," "must have" and so on.

  It is the cruelest part of leaving the religion that we have to risk all. Sometimes we are lucky but with every success there are numerous accounts of heartbreak. It is rare to save everyone.

  The society knows that it holds a powerful card and uses relatives as leverage. It fully understands what it means when they drive a wedge into families and they also know that there is no good biblical reason for shunning. Their policy is a stench and a blight on their faith. The fact that the governing body supports and promotes it shows how ungodly they are.

  Those in thrall to this poison are hard to reach but nothing is impossible. I send family members cards on anniversaries, I ask after them with people I know are in contact. In little ways I make plain that I have not rejected them. Gestures are small because anything elaborate is likely to offend. I take heart that it took me 40 years to wake up and for some it has taken longer. Nothing is hopeless it is making it plain they are always welcome here. At least I know that as each day passes and the societies explanations for the delay in Armageddon become increasingly bizarre the flock may well shake themselves from slumber.

  so i'm not sure---and almost used the term brits a minute ago and edited to say british people.

  so tell me----is it offensive?

  Do JWs treat women like second-class citizens, like their husbands' property?

  as an elder, i recall that the husband always had to be present on any judicial committee meeting involving his wife, but that the wife was not to be present on judicial committee meetings involving her husband.

  has this changed?

  if not, isn't that treating women as lesser persons than their husbands?.

  The problem is that those in charge are clinging to the ideas of a previous era. As a result women are weak and have a minor role in the relationship.

  The husband can attend the JC of his wife because the implication is he will be part of the process to save her. He will get to hear everything unless there are unusual circumstances. The wife can only attend if the husband wants her to be there and then will only hear part of the process. The book implies that her role is to give evidence against the husband. She cannot attend the whole JC because of confidentiality. However the wife doesn't have the same courtesies extended to her.

  People are people and men are not lesss likely to be affronted by behaviour of their wives than wives are. It is unequal and allows abuse of power. It has ever been thus.

  normally i don't go in for these conspiracy theory ideas, but a comment by kurtbethel on another thread got me to thinking.

  might this latest dvd actually be proof that there are operatives inside watchtower hq who are deliberately sabotaging the society's material?

  The DVD links to a specific song in the book listen, obey and be blessed. It also addresses a key issue for the organisation of the young leaving in their droves. The DVD has the same feel as an assembly demonstration which are usually exaggerations of everyday situations complete with the little lapses whilst the person reflects on the council. What the society failed to appreciate that whilst a demonstration in an arena is over and done with and soon forgotten the DVD allows for people to actually think about what they saw and replay it again if they wish. Because it is in their home and seen out of context of the convention people can be more critical and the control elements jar on the senses.

  Where the society screwed up is thinking that the modern day drama scenarios would play out the same way on a DVD. It is typical laziness really not appreciating that this medium would need a lighter touch.

  Remember they are in a sealed environment and way behind the times, they are slow to react and are used to rehashing the same tired demos year after year. They really don't think about what they are doing. I don't think it was deliberate sabotarge. I think it was arrogance and a failure to appreciate that the young they are targeting have a much better bullshit detector than their parents. The whole condescending tone shows that they really have no idea who they are talking to.
