If you look at any elder body you can see a duplication of the GB. In elder bodies there are sincere men who believe it all and are occasionally distressed by some of what happens but are willing to wait on Jehovah. You also have the political animals who wish to maintain their position at all costs, they are happy to tread on others and abuse their position. They don't believe and don't care it is irrelevant. There are also those who believe the publicity they are told they are important and because this is reinforced they don't question it and they accept it. Witnesses are not encouraged to question and are deeply conditioned. What makes them culpable is a failure to take their position seriously and follow through leading and serving rather than accepting and consolidating.

82Is the Governing Body EVIL or IGNORANT?
by cedars insome of you will have noticed that i've been paying a lot of attention to the governing body recently.
this is because most jehovah's witnesses venerate them collectively (even if they can't name them individually), and i feel this makes it important to understand this group of men properly and expose their mindset as individuals.
as the saying goes, i feel it's important to "know your enemy".. i realize it's very convenient to think of the governing body as being "evil" when we consider that they are ultimately responsible for all the damaging jw teachings and beliefs.

I wrote a D.A. letter
by snakeface ini used to be very active int he organization, "high profile" so to speak.
always taking the gorup out in service, always having parts on the platform etc etc.
almost 5 years ago, i simply did not show up anymore.

This made interesting reading and made me wonder why the society didn't put more effort into the appeal. It did remind me a little of the way they approach most things where they misquote and do not do thorough research. It would be nice to think that their appeal is dismissed but there is a saying that the law is an ass so nothing is guaranteed. Candace deserves to get this settled speedily and finally so she can move forward with her life.

it's hard to believe that only a year has passed since i joined, but i feel that's a testament to how much i have been welcomed and made to feel like part of the furniture.. i would very much like to take this opportunity to thank everyone on the forum for the immense help and assistance i have received, particularly in my first few weeks/months of posting.
it truly was a lifeline at a very distressing time for me.

I find the assumptions you made showed a lack of understanding. It is rare to see anyone here blame God for the losses they suffer. Most of the people here do not see God in the process of disfellowshipping. There is no God in the man made rules of the society. I think many have realised that they were duped by men and feel bitter not because they allowed themselves to follow god's direction staying within a corrupt organisation to learn "valuable" lessons but because they allowed men to manipulate and control them.
You are assuming that it was God's will that we stayed under control of pharasees and that they were teaching us how to become mature christians. I would suggest that the Bible does not advocate being passive about faith and that if the faith is corrupt you take action. Also when you are constantly told what to think, believe and do in the smallest detail, then you will never be mature enough to stand on your own. Maturity comes when you have the self confidence to make your own decisions and don't have to look up in a watchtower what you should be doing.
To suggest that because our points of view differ I am deserving of destruction is an extreme perspective. How do you know that my thoughts and opinions are less valuable then yours? I also find the hectoring tone offensive to acknowledge that people have experienced painful losses but then assign those same people to Ghenna is pure Watchtower rhetoric. I suggest you review your own point of view it does you no favours.

Advice needed please.

i am a baptised jw(born-in).. i was a publisher in good standing until about last december when i stopped putting in fs time as well as attending meetings and conventions including this year's memorial.. i no longer believe in the teachings of the watchtower society.. about 3 weeks ago an elder and a ms from my cong came to ny house uninvited and told me they were just checking on me and wanted to find why i haven't been to the meetings for such a long time.
they told me it was not an official visit, but sort of hinted to me that if i don't show up then i might be getting an official one soon.

Fading is a tough task as essentially you have to follow JW doctrine and you are not free to live your life. The advice to prepare for the worst is sound advice. Start building relationships outside the organisation and start planning how your life will look when you are totally free to live as you please. Work towards it.
If the elders catch you off guard then thank them for their concern and say to them that you are dealing with personal things at the moment and will contact them if you need their help.
The best advice is keep it short, do not share any doubts with them. Apear humble and appreciative without offering any commitments. Do not invite them in. If they try to prolong a visit then tell them you are late for an appointment and are not in a position to talk or that this is a bad time for you and again you know where they are and will contact them if you need them.
If you can move then do otherwise you must be careful. On no account share your JWN identity with strangers.

Do Elders Have A Reasonable Expectation Of Privacy During Judicial Committees?
by DT ini should point out that i'm not a lawyer and i'm not qualified to give legal advice.. there has been much discussion about judicial committees lately and how to handle and possibly record them.. naturally, the question of the legality of recording judicial committees is a concern.
my understanding of the law in the u.s. is that it is legal to record private conversations in most states provided at least one party consents to the recording.
in the other states, it is required to get the consent of all parties to record a private conversation.. however, it would be reasonable to ask whether or not a judicial committee is a private conversation and whether the elders have a reasonable expectation of privacy.

I take notes for discipinary hearings and often record and then transcribe. This protects both parties since they can be confident that the notes accurately refelect the questions nd responses. Often evidence can turn on a single word and what you thought was said is not what was actually said.
Considering a JC is there to determine whether or not to throw you off the symbolic Ark of salvation then you would assume that it is more important than ever that the decisions are based on accurate reflection of the evidence.
However a JC is not there really to establish guilt or innocence , it starts with the assumption of guilt. It is there to establish a subjective level of repentance. The elders do not examine the validity of the points of the accused so what they say is irrelevent and in the case of apostacy elders do not want to hear their point of view. The fact that the accused holds such views is condemnation in itself. In the case of a Jc the onlu person who benefits from a recording is the accused since outside of the witness environment the proceedings are shown to be bizarre and unjust.

thank you for the additional clarification. It is always interesting to get the perspective of an outsider to the events and also to find out what the lawyer felt was the main purpose of the case. The societies efforts to spin the events for their own ends means that this information is needed so that we are not sucked into their agenda.

I left the Witnesses over 10 years ago, but finally went back
by JakeMarley inthe entire time i was gone it was nagging at me.
i hadn't been previously baptized, so leaving wasn't that big a deal.
now i'm back in the swing of it, going to all meetings and field service.
