  i like to get stuff done in the morning and do my own thing later.. i really hated the afternoon meeting.

  you had no time to do sod all.

  not even eat a decent lunch with a glass of wine!!.

  In the past there was always one congregation that called the shots and picked the best meeting times. I was in 2 congregations that were stuck with the afternoon meetings on Sunday for decades because the other congregation preferred morning meetings and wouldn't swap. When the rotation came it was really nice to get morning meetings on a Sunday on either a bi annual basis or for 2 years.

  At the time you work with it because you are encouraged to be faithful and obedient and even though part of you thinks something is awkward or unreasonable you still do it. I found that when I had children I found some of the selfishness trying especially as it was my children who were affected.

  Will firing the DOs be the first step to a new Watchtower?

  against my better judgement, i've decided to share the following as a response to guy pierce passing and the announcement of the elimination of district overseers later this year.. late in january (2014) i got an email from one of my contacts (a fader) who served at bethel for several years, but is no longer at wt hq.

  he still has a lot of close contacts within the service department and in other departments at patterson and knows people in all of the ny offices.

  i kept this email set aside on a flash drive and haven't shared it with anyone - figuring i'd publish an article about it later this year when i had more time to do it right.

  If the 144,000 no longer includes women whether it is a literal number or not this will be a bitter pill for many faithful sisters who have believed themselved to have the heavenly hope, they will be crushed and humiliated. This may have a huge impact at a local level. In the past they have always said that if someone claims to be annointed when they are not then there is no other hope for them, if they are not annointed then they die since they have rejected the earthy hope for something that is not theirs. It would not just be a change of status but condemnation to death.

  I wonder if they will be arrogant enough to do this. Being an annointed sister has not always been a quest for prominence since for sisters this has always been something they felt was between them and God. They had no special status in the congregation and no chance to be part of the GB.

  How they rationalise this or persuade the flock will be interesting.

  What do you love about being a JW?

  The rules are not there to protect the flock they are there to protect the organisation. The rules do not prevent premarital sex, molestation, drunkeness, strife, adultery, stealing, cruelty, violence, incest, misery and broken homes. The rules cause people to hide behaviour and conform to a code of silence.

  The rules cause people to put trust in men who are ill equipped to deal with complex issues leading to long term damage and mental anguish.

  You are not protected anymore than sheep in a pen outside a slaughter house are protected, you are just controlled and will be sacrificed to the hubris of a cult if the need arises.

  By the time they get to reading the publication it may well be out of date or modified. The on line publications are often altered just after the published paper copies are distributed.

  They will never catch up or even hope to understand the convoluted logic of the organisation who have the problem of remembering the old lies so they can keep their story straight whilst feeding new lies to their flock.

  Vacation pioneerig has been going for years. My husband used to do it and was miserable the whole month. He used to do a lot of walking round the territory as we are in a rural area and it takes hours getting from a to b.

  So glad that this is not on my plan for the year.

  The elders wife is a deluded woman who truly believes she is something special, in reality she is an arrogant, shallow woman who works in a supermarket.

  The religion has a diminishing effect on it's worshippers and this can lead to them behaving in a way that is cold and unfeeling to another. The fact that her behaviour unsettled you is quite normal and it gives you an opportunity to plan how you will behave in future should a similar event happen again. By preparing in advance you will feel less caught off guard and more in control and the encounter will have less power to upset you.

  hello jwn!

  i don't get to check in here or comment as often as i would like because i have been working so hard at school...but i just have to share my news in hopes that newbees can see that taking the leap to enroll in higher education is worth it-.

  i am graduating this spring with a bachelor degree in art history, minor anthropology...many people (including nonjw's have given me flack for choosing a "dead end" career path) but since leaving the watchtower organization's group-think mentality and "leaning on my own understanding" instead... i decided to say fuck everyone else's opinion...i am going to pursue my passion to work in a museum as a curator or archivist-.

  7 years ago i started on a path i had long ago given up on as impossible.

  i met with my elders and told them i could not justify carrying on as a jw.

  i went and got my high school qualifications and my higher education diploma (a levels with distinction) in just 12 months.
