The exorcist. I remember the hype when it was released nd the expected condemnation by religious groups. I actually finally got to see it a couple of years ago and was very disappointed. A lot of people drinking coffee with some shock scenes to break it up. Any spoof of the film ever has covered all the best bits in 5 minutes.

The glue of disfellowshiping
by Sour Grapes inthe fear or threat of being disfellowshipped is what is keeping thousands of jdubs stuck in the borg.
the borg knows that and constantly reminds the witlesses of this loving provision from their desert god.. this forces thousands of people to live miserable lives.
millions of jdubs live for the promised panda and lion petting zoo while pissing away the only life they will ever have.

When you accept that there are other things more important than the congregation you can walk away. I am so glad that I can live my life without fear, express my thoughts and see the world and people around me without feeling the need to judge them. I was lucky to leave with my husband and children. I was lucky to have some family outside the organisation so that shunning although painful was not devastating. It is cruel, deliberately so and yes it does mean that people with a lot to lose feel trapped. If several generations of your family are all witnesses then the pressur to conform is huge.

Anyone pissed at their parents for raising you in the cult?
by blownaway inmy mother was not the most emotionally stable person.
she was a follower and instilled in me the idea we were better than those worldly people.
its hard to go to school as a child and you can not be friends outside of school, you can not celebrate any holidays, and you are told all these people are going to die.

There is a degree of anger and regret. My mum was the right personality type to be attracted to the organisation. She allowed the organisation to take precedent over everything and trusted them totally. This meant that when abuse happened she looked to the elders and allowed them to deal with a situation that should have been reported to the Police. She broke the family driving wedges between us and is unaware and does not accept the damage her religion ha caused.
When I had my own children I could see very quickly that the religion was not understanding of their needs. I knew field service was mortifying and meetings were boring and sometimes inappropriate for small children. I could see them being crushed by this religion and could not accept it. Their needs were instrumental in my decision to leave and I cannot understand why for my mother the needs of her children were not important.

News spot for JW convention - keep barf bags ready
by days of future passed ini could barely stand listening to it.

Totally bait and switch. Saying that they offer help dealing with the problems and anxieties they face where in reality it is about conditioning the faithful to be obedient to the directives of the GB. To stick with the crazy because the world hates JWs and is corrupt.
No collections but plenty of collection boxes.

my husband is on business in Germany and was watching the Korea Germany game in the hotel. He had to leave after Korea scored their second goal knocking Germany out of the competition because he couldn't restrain himself from yelling "Yes!!" in a room full of Germans.
He may make it home alive but who knows.

LEAK: 3000 buildings to liquidate. How to choose? (Watchtower propaganda video)
by Fay Dehr inhttps://youtu.be/pzdxen9rvw0.
as the leaked financial meetings show, watchtower (by it's own admission) has to liquidate 3000+ properties quickly.
how do they choose?

It is surprising that finances seem so bleak bearing in mind the cash grab for all the reserves held by the congregations and the sales of prime real estate that have already taken place. If donations are down then congregations are loss making. I forsee continued pressure to donate and elderly ones being pressured to leave money to the society since there are fewer younger ones giving generously.

This is a little disingenuous. In our area real estate i being liquidated rather than fully utilised. Congregations aren't moving to fill space on the contrary smaller congregations are being moved to larger ones so the hall can be sold.
The financial report seems very gloomy it does not seem like a group bathing in the abundance God provides rather than agroup living beyond its means and needing to tighten it's belt.

It is tricky she usually shuts down but today she was willing to talk. We actually found some common ground.

Visited my mum today. She i a JW and usually refuses to talk about issues around the JW organisation however today I had an opportunity to debate with her.
We were discussing the elders and that sometimes they made mistakes. Her response was "they are human and humans make mistakes."
I said to her " You could say the same about any group or religion. By using this excuse you are saying you are not special and no different from anyone else. Surely if you are the ONLY representatives of god on Earth you should be striving for a higher standard that elevates you from other groups."
I am so fed up with this excuse as a coverall for any failing. I would expect at the very least for anyone who sets themselves up as a devine conduit to be striving to be worthy of the honour and be making a real effort rather than the lazy fallback position.
She was willing to accept that witnesses put too much trust in the elders and that some are not worthy of the trust. We discussed the concept of sin and how there is a lack of recognition that some of the things classed as sins are actually crimes and as a holy society there should be no tolerance for this. My mum argued that if the person was repentant then they should be accepted back . I argued that the issue of repentance was entirely separate to any criminal penalty and to be true shepherds they had a duty of care to the congregation and seek legal remedy if they were made aware of any crimes.
It was the most open discussion we have had in a long time and she was able to recognise that not every thing the society say or does is right. It's taken 8 years to reach this point.
