Forgive the Watchtower!

i was abused by my father growing up.

physically and emotionally.. as a entered my adult life i had next to no self esteem, in part because he didn't really attempt to help me get some because i didn't chose the career path that he dreamed for me.. 2 years ago i forgave him.

i let go of the anger that i had for him because i knew that when it was all said and done, he did what he did and i believe that he did his best.

Forgive an entity responsible for ripping families apart, dumbing down intelligent humans, and threatening individuals with death at an imaginary Armageddon?

Forgive a group of men responsible for deaths via the blood policy? For the deaths of those who refused an organ transplant because the WT said so without any biblical argument? Who are responsible for the deaths of those who took their own lives due to a shunning policy that kicks people when they are already at their lowest point?

Forgive an organization that claims it speaks for God, but when they get it wrong they don't admit it was their mistake? Forgive an intellectually dishonest group of men that claim Jerusalem was destroyed in 607 BCE just to prop up their 1914 doctrine when all of the evidence ever uncovered points to a different date?

No thanks.

How about this line in the letter:

The information is designed for use by the elders only, and other individuals should not have any opportunity to read the information.

Makes me think something really juicy might be in there...They can't be that stupid can they? When are the books actually starting to hit the hands of the elders?

as i see it, there are three looming threats that all have the potential - individually or combined - to bring the wbts to its knees, at least in the united states, anyway.. 1. youth retention.

the young people aren't buying it.

the watchtower will argue that faithless young people are giving in to demonic persuasion and leaving the truth.

This is a good video on the Worldwide Church of God which was as wacky as the WT. It is quite long but most here will really relate to how that church used to be run. Basically it was from the top down, with Herbert Armstrong running the show. Until he died and the subsequent leaders decided to reform the church, nothing changed. The GB is different in that they run the show by committee. If one or two step out of line, they are simply ousted like what happened to Ray. There is no real reason for them to change in a drastic way, and the committee setup almost insures they bleed a slow death. That is why the WT wont crumble over a short period of time, because the leadership controls the rank and file and unless the leaders change the sheep simply follow. Yes the thinkers and the dissatisfied leave, but they don't care about that.

Think of those who left in the early 80's during the so called "apostasy" they must have thought it was the end of the WT when Ray exposed them....

Think of those who woke up in 95 with the "generation" revision. They probably thought the same....

Everlasting Life and the resurrection are powerful drugs (carrots)....people will literally live to die for them. Sacrifice 70 or 80 years here and now for eternity later.....thats a no brainer

As to the OP's original points, all three of those will lead to a slow and steady exit over the next hundred years, but no crash and burn.

i had started studying with jw because i was curious about the religion because my bf then(now husband) was a witness.

i am a very open minded person and really had i known what i know now i prob would not have been baptized.

i always had my doubts but i really enjoyed the positive aspects that i was learning at the meetings...i studied with my mom in law.i prob shouldn't have done that because she has taken it very personal that we have stopped and even had the nerve to say i started studying to get in good with the fam!!

The absolute best part of that video is around 9:00 when he starts talking about the "ants printing the WT" then goes on to say they should "never have been talking about the generation" Classic!

NYC Memorial Speaker Removed From Stage - Can Anyone Confirm/Deny?

back in the late 80's, a former bethelite told me a story about an incident in new york, at least i assume that is where it happened.

i dont believe he was actually in attendance, but was relaying what had happened at some other hall.

don't remember all of the details of the story, but here are the basics.. some speaker was giving the memorial talk, and started going into the part about the bread and the wine being emblems of christ.

Can any of the elders comment on WHY the don't allow recordings? What scripture can they use to justify this?

A better question might be why are trials held in star chamber fashion without public access? Even in Israel trials were held at the public gate so that the judges had to be accountable to the public. If witness trials were held in public for the congo to witness, after the first few "apostacy" hearings the R&F would start to think for themselves, and that is the last damn thing the WTBTS wants. As far a scripture, you won't find one to even support the whole JC process in the New Testament.

JC hearings have one function only, and that is to control members by instilling fear in their hearts by threatening to take away their family and friends in a few short hours.

I agree, it is quite dishonest to stand up, pound on the table over and over and insist that only you know Gods name when in fact you don't. I agree that if Jesus wanted some particular name "known" wouldn't he have said it hundreds if not thousands of times?
