i have noticed an apparently increasing number of men who are not interested in becoming ministerial servants or elders.
i also know of some that have voluntarily stepped down (which is my case) for no obvious solid reason.. i remember, during my teenage years or even during my twenties, the brothers were always looking forward to being appointed... although many still do, i have noticed there are many others with whom you do not know what the deal is.. since there is no freedom of speech within the organization, we remain in the dark about the motives and desires of everybody else.
i attend a congregation with only two ministerial servants, while it is full of men who do not seem to be willing to do more.. it is hard to tell exactly what is going on, since honesty is not possible while you are inside, but i am starting to think that more and more are becoming disillusioned.... .
Young dudes dont want to get messed up in that shit. There are so many better ways to spend your time.
Weekends get totally jacked the second you are appointed, suddenly you are in the rotation to lead field serve-us, and of course more responsibility at the Sunday meeting. It gets harder and harder to miss meetings once you are appointed. Who wants that???
Only the brown nosers and the power hungry idiots want that job.

we attended a memorial for a long time friend there this past weekend.
it was my first time in a kingdom hall since memorial 2008. as per usual, the people were lovely but the message had gaps and left me feeling somewhat blank and cold.
Go to a few meetings, better yet tie in over the phone.
The sheer boredom will remind you of why you left. Its truly painful to listen to that garbage once you know it all bull.

i have made several observations and would like to make a few comments.. first, i am perplexed by the attitude of many on this site that are either former or active (but apostate) jws.
they seem to have a strong hatred for the wts and also for rank and file jws.
objective, I thought the same. Could be a well writted troll job. We shall see if he/she returns!
if you read jw literature, the world has been progressively getting "worse and worse" since 1914.. is that really the case?.

Its all about standing up for yourself and not allowing a bully to do what he does. Most elders are bullies, but stand up to them, and boy do they stand down in a New York second.
Oh, and standing up to them also includes purposely vanishing off of their radar with no explanation necessary!

In my opinion, it is hypocritical for these ones to denigrate active JWs when these same ones were in the same boat only a few months or years ago.
Hmm, so nobody is allowed to change their opinion about others? When I was a JW, I was a judgemental douchebag. Fact.
Just because other JWs liked me and didn't tell me such, doesn't make it untrue. While I give JWs a pass on many items because they are under mind control, I no longer give disgusting behaviors like shunning a free pass. It would be worse if I continued to condone such simply because it is part of their belief system. If their belief system is wrong in my opinion, I'm allowed to say so.

Thank you for the advice, one of my parents is out, and I've finally enjoyed Xmas with them for a few years, after three decades of never even having the option of celebrating.
