Interesting conversation with a pioneer today
by ldrnomo ini went into my favorite cafe this afternoon for lunch and saw a husband and wife that go to the congregation i used to go to.
the woman is a pioneer and has been for years and her husband is an elder who i've talked to a couple of times since i stopped going to meetings 3 years ago but i have not talked to her in 3 years.. when i got my lunch, i looked up and noticed them sitting by the window so i went over to them and said hello.
he said hi but when i said hello to the woman she just kinda looked at me.

Watching 60 minutes
by sspo inwatching 60 minutes and they're showing a skeleton that is 1.9 million years old... found in south africa.. the expert agree on its age and that's so far off from what the bible says of adam being created 6000 years ago.. for 32 years as a jw i argued with people in trying to prove that the bible is truthful in everything it says but.
i finally realized a few years ago that it 's just another "holy book" written by men.. .

I do each and every day, despite the pain of the shunning of this cult...
Each day I laugh at funny things, I explore online or out in the real world, and some days I get to talk face to face on a very deep level with caring and wonderful humans about my life, and theirs. We bounce ideas, thoughts, emotions, and feelings off of one another, and in the end we are better for it when the day ends....
No I don't think I'm Jehovah, but I do have kids who enjoy life even more than I do...at least it looks like they do when I watch them. I know kids aren't for everyone, but even if they shun me when they are fully grown I still worth it to see that I was a small part of giving them joy and happiness-life!

So believingxjw what the hell is your solution? Leave them in the cult without a fight? Have notvery act like a good little JW for the rest of his life and expect his kids will leave on their own when they are 18?
I think Notvery's point that he will not oppose them but will let them know all sides of the story is a perfectly justifiable way to go now that he knows the truth about the truth. Just because they raised them this far as JWs doesn't mean he doesn't have the right to change his mind, despite the unjust baptismal vows the WT placed on him. Let the chips fall where they may....

Debt Problems and Jehovah's Witnesses
by skeeter1 inwhat can you tell me about jehovah's witnesses and their individual debts?
- - do you see people get overextended on credit card debt?.
- - is there an atititude that since the armegheddon is going to come "any time" that it's ok to charge up the debt?.

I agree that the way they treat debt is pretty much like non JWs. But they do have a very different view of putting money away for retirement. For a short time in my early 20's I worked in the retirement industry and found out really how powerful 401k savings can be. While I only worked there for six months, I continued 401 contributions at my following job.
In talking with active JWs before I left, I can probably count the number that had a 401k or an IRA on one hand. They just don't think they are ever going to need it! And why should they, with constant talk of "soon" and "imminent" they never think they are going to retire on this side of Armageddon.
