To new non-believers to JWN (they need guidance too)
by cyberjesus ini wanted to make a few comments to those of you that have recently begun to question or have already left the wt and made their way onto this site.
this site is a great resource to learn how others are coping with leaving the organization and moving on into a fulfilling life.. i wanted to write this post because i think reading something like this would've been helpful to me to understand where a lot of people that comment on this site are coming from.
"who hold the truth in unrighteousness.

Your missing the point, just because you say something is "based on scripture" doesn't mean a thing. Like i said, if I say Richard Dawkins says "there is no God" it doesnt mean a thing either. What matters is EVIDENCE and an ancient book with all sorts of inaccuracies and unprovable stories is not an acceptable substitute. Fine if you want to live your life on based on that storybook but dont sit here and tell us we are unhappy because "the bible says so"
As to lack of evidence being a copout, its exactly the opposite. I agree with you in that I say "I dont think there is a God", but i am willing to consider new evidence if it appears. Most atheist are not dogmatic because they actually do review the evidence and they cannot say with 100% certainty that there is not a god. You however hang your hat on seeing a tree and equating that with Gods existence- one doesnt have a damn thing to do with another.

It is merely what the Bible says on the issue. And I really do think it's insightful to what you new Christians to JWN may encounter here. Psalm 14:1 says "The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one that does good." So WHY does the man say "there is no God"? The verse answers that they are corrupt.
So because the bible says I am corrupt, it must be true! About the same as me claiming because Richard Dawkins says something, it must be true as well.
Verse 3 expounds on this and says, "All have turned aside" and "there is no one that does good." I really think this is why people buy into the atheistic philosophy. They want to eliminate the ulti mate judgment on such sinfulness, consequently, they eliminate God. It's expedient for them to philosophically get rid of God so that they don't have to live under the guilt and the fear of a coming judgment.
Wrong again...we eliminate God due to the lack of evidence. If god exists, he is either an extremely poor communicator as he could simply bring tell all of us exactly what he wants, or he just isnt interested in us. Most of us dont get rid of God because we fear his judgement, we get rid of him because he won't/can't/or refuses to tell us what the hell he wants
So can atheists REALLY have contentment in their belief (or unbelief)? They will claim that they are content. There are all kinds of people that try to find contentment in just about everything imaginable. But REAL contentment only comes from knowing God.
Your certainly entitled to your opinion, but you are not entitled to claim whether others are really or happy or not based on their non-belief in an invisible man in the sky.
Overall, your message sounds very Watchtowerish in its condescending tone.

"...the times we are living in..."
by bez inso, just had one of our 'elders' ring to see how we are getting on and if we need any help etc.. when my hubby was honest and said we were ok and that we had decided to just move on with our lives and our family right now and concentrate on that and nothing else, but thanked him for their interest and care over last few months.... he replied by saying, ok, he would let the body of elders know this???
?, and he also reminded him to not forget "the times we are living in".... my husband told me the conversation after coming off the phone and now i feel, after being on a high the last couple of weeks (despite coming off my anti-d's cold turkey, drs orders) , i feel now actually really crap, quite scared and once again like i am making a bad decision for my kids... what is wrong with me!!!.

Bez remember a big part of cults is that they plant phobias into their members. They say over and over again 'the times we are living in' or 'where else would you go'
Then in the WT they follow that up with examples of people who get DFd, go out and take drugs and catch STDs then come running back to the WT with all of their regrets. What they dont tell you is that all along these ones are living out the phobias that have been implanted because they didn't actually deprogram themselves, they just wanted out of the religion but didnt know any other way of doing it! You have a huge leg up as you know exactly why you are leaving so its just a matter of replacing the phobias with rational thought...
I'm sorry to hear about your daughter...its hard to do but keep thinking about her long term future and how much better her life will be outside of the guilt inducing religion..

Hang in there....really think about the times we are living in, as they are better than ever before!
People live much longer, and have greater luxuries today. We work much less, think about 100 years ago, your husband would be working 10 to 12 hour days, usually six days a week.
People are more educated worldwide. Great medicines have been developed to save babies and children from dying at a young age.
Contrary to JW lies, horrific wars are not engulfing the world. Yes they are happening, but in comparison to world wars they are small and only in certain regions.
You also have to remember the media makes money on bad news, so that is usually all you see on TV, much to the delight of sick JWs

Brazen Conduct or Loose Conduct? Original Greek question....
by LostGeneration inaccording to the details posted by ynot the brazen conduct wording is explained this way:.
you will note in chapter 5, paragraph 9, of the shepherding textbook that a change in terminology is being introduced.
a new term, "brazen conduct," will be used in addition to " loose conduct," or in some cases instead of "loose conduct.

According to the details posted by Ynot the Brazen conduct wording is explained this way:
You will note in chapter 5, paragraph 9, of the Shepherding textbook that a change in terminology is being introduced. A new term, "brazen conduct," will be used in addition to " loose conduct," or in some cases instead of "loose conduct." This new term has been cho!ll';n by the
Governing Body because it more accurately conveys the thOUght of the original Greek word that is translated "loose conduct" in the New World Translation.I assume they are referring to this scripture at Gal 5:19-21
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, and they are fornication, uncleanness, loose conduct, 20 idolatry, practice of spiritism, enmities, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, contentions, divisions, sects, 21 envies, drunken bouts, revelries, and things like these. As to these things I am forewarning YOU , the same way as I did forewarn YOU , that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s kingdom.
So my question to the brains on the board is this- Is the GB once again twisting scripture to meet their own agenda? Or is there any backup for their "brazen conduct" wording listed in the letter? I really have no idea of the original greek word they are referring to here so thus the question

Meaning of "Generation"
by brotherdan ini'd like to give my opinion on what jesus use of the word "generation" means, and then ask all of you to post what you think it may mean.. the wt seems to be obsessed with the concept of a scripture having multiple meanings.
while i think this can be true, they go overboard with the concept.
primarily matthew 24 was speaking of the events that took place in 70 c.e.

That's the easy way out. It was a fictional conversation. Nice reasoning there, guys.
So where is your evidence that these words were actually spoken in the time and format that the Bible says they were? As Terry has pointed out literally dozens of times, there are no ORIGINALS when it comes to the bible.
Two parties argue what was said in a conversation 10 minutes ago. And we are supposed to believe these words spoken 2000 years ago are exactly as this man supposedly spoke them. Sorry, reality and the here and now are what we have. Nothing more-nothing less.

What is also amazing is that if you do a search on the WT CD rom they basically ignore the scripture....so they are well aware of it!
