What would that leave them that sets them apart from any other Protestant evangelical church?
You forgot about the whole Paradise Earth thing, they need that to be unique.
drop shunning or at least drop shunning among family members.
make blood transfusions a conscience matter, no more hlc.
drop the two witness rule, mandatory reporting of child abuse, no privileges for offenders.

9. make celebrating certain secular traditions like birthdays and Christmas a consistence matter.
10. quite enforcing people to dress a predefined way hair length, beards or etc..
These two would actually probably be harder for them to do than some of the other ones because these would be very visible changes to outsiders.

How can teaching things that are not true ever be acceptable?
I believe that many people in mainstream religions know that it is to be taken with a grain of salt but they still feel good about the overall message of their churches. It is not the fanatical "We have the 100% truth!" that you see coming from JWs. In this way I think some religions are acceptable because people have chosen them. They aren't being manipulated to stay. They have the freedom to change their minds and explore any opposing ideas if they wish.

i wondered why i felt so fatigued over many years from hearing the same things again and again at the meetings.
even the scriptures become too familiar.
a few days ago i quickly read through all the gospels and realised i knew all the verses in detail.

does anyone remember how the society joined the "disco sucks" movement of the late 70's?
i remember reading in the mags about how disco was created by homos and that it has an "immoral beat" (whatever that means!
) it was also mentioned not to go see "saturday night fever" because someone gets a blowjob in the movie.. in our congregation, we had a special meeting about disco because people would request disco songs at our once-a-month jw skating party at the local skating rink.
so i've been reading the imitate their faith book (because my wife wants to) and keep coming upon these ridiculous ages for the bible patriarchs.
now i know wt takes everything literally but there has got to be some explanation that makes more sense.
why would the bible writers create these obviously false ages?
Thanks for all of your thoughts, guess it could just be the creation of legends. Just seemed odd to me because the Hebrews were very into genealogy as can be seen by other portions of the bible where lineages are carefully recorded. I had this silly idea that maybe they added the extra years because they knew that they didn't have an accurate record of all the generations. A way to fill in the gaps if you will...just speculation.
i am jehovah's witness, despite some of the questionable teachings, crimes, and other outlandish behaviors of specific people affiliated with the religion.
i know that my relationship with jehovah is not influenced by any outside factors.
i do not condone any crime.
