Infighting at the top?
by JeffT inwe've all been trying to decipher what is going on at the top of the watchtower organization.
clearly, the game's afoot, we just don't know what game we're playing.
item: the constant harping about money and donations.

Could a power struggle be going on? Yes, but it could be simpler than that. It could be that they want to make changes that will externally make them look more progressive and liberal. At the same time they want to tighten control over members who are already in and centralize the finances. Or it could be that they feel they need to rebrand because they aren't growing and are in a financial hole. They may realize that they will lose some members but feel that in the long run they will grow. -

JWs and New Year's Resolutions
by JW_Rogue inanyone else find it odd that jws don't do new year's resolutions?
i have never read anything about it in any wt publication.
yet, it is like some unwritten rule.

I understand how they could say the celebration is pagan and also that the holiday encourages bad behavior, but setting goals is generally a good thing to do. The WT at any other time of the year would encourage goal setting, especially "spiritual goals". -

Why don't you do anything?
by WireRider ini'm not jw, so i see this all standing up and very clear from an outsider perspective (i am still seeking my path).
i joined the blog a few weeks ago.
i dated a divorced jw (jw from birth) for a couple of years recently.

Of course, if your family are not motivated by your 'bold stand for what you believe in', because they believe it all, so they treat you as though you were dead.. Ah well, you've only lost everybody who is important to you, eh? Never mind (!). At least you have lowered the attendance figures and no longer support the mostly irrelevant little cult known as the Watchtower.. How happifying.
Exactly! Even the ones who are fakers will shun you because they don't want to leave and or get shunned themselves. No one really knows who the true believers are and their is no way to find out without exposing yourself. There are no private, off the record discussions in JW land.

Yes, why new songs on a special holiday? Wouldn't you want some traditional songs that everyone knows how to sing already? To me this is way to make families sing these songs at home. Practicing the song is further brainwashing for parents and children. Many will do it because they won't want the congregation to sound terrible singing a song they have never even heard. -

The really cool feeling of community within JWs
by Phaedra ini remember going out with other jws after the memorial.. small gatherings.. picnics at some local landmark.. the feeling of closeness, camaraderie, friendship with like minded people you could trust.. haven't experienced it since i left.. really miss that..

Haven't experienced it since I left.I see what you're saying but I think even this is conditional. If someone in the little groups doesn't like you or your family then you won't be invited to all the activities. Or sometimes they will invite people after field service, so if you didn't make it out in service you were forgotten. Another thing is most of the friendships are very superficial. Nobody wants to reveal too much because they could be seen as being "spiritually weak". What kind of friendship is that? The only real friends I have had are the ones I grew up with and even with those I wouldn't feel free to voice all my opinions about "the truth".

Literature being discontinued, including Isaiah's Prophecy and Reasoning book
by Richard_I incongregations get an annual letter that tells what can be ordered for literature (it's mainly a list of audio cds/dvds for the deaf), but this time it included publications that will be discontinued, and this included the isaiah's prophecy book and the reasoning book, and i think i saw the draw close to jehovah book.
i meant to take a picture of the letter but forgot.
the branch is only going to give what they have on stock, when that stock depletes that's it, you won't be able to order those publications anymore.. this is in canada so i don't know if this is worldwide..

Not surprised that they are discontinuing the Isaiah book, it was so dull and drab. As another poster brought out the whole book is about the restoration of the Israelites to their homeland. So each chapter had the same "modern day fulfillment", it was really a stretch. It's really a historical record and has no particularly great meaning for us today. Their was never any need for a verse by verse prophetic take but we endured it.
What surprises me is that they are doing away with the Revelation book. How many times did we study that book? Each time being told that it was one of the deeper things that needed to be studied closely. Now we don't need it at all, isn't that amazing? I wouldn't be surprised if they let some time pass so that people forget about the explanations given in the Revelation book. Then they come out with a new book on Revelation incorporating the new understandings of Jesus parables that they have been doing lately. Of course that one will then be the one that is so important to study deeply. LOL

JW Version Of Spring Cleaning
by JW_Rogue infrom the january study edition second study article paragraph 10:.
we can use the memorial season as an opportunity to look through our wardrobe, our movie and music collections, perhaps even the material stored on our computers, smartphones, and tablets.if i were going to a place where jesus would be present, would i feel uncomfortable wearing this clothing?if i did wear it, would it be obvious to all that i am a follower of christ jesus?would jesus be entertained by watching this movie or by listening to this music?
if he borrowed my cell phone or tablet, would i be embarrassed by what he saw there?as you consider the subject matter of a video game, ask yourself: would i find it difficult to explain to jesus why i enjoy playing it?

No, Jesus loves the iPhone he says Samsung can't beat it no matter how hard they try. Oh, yeah and he's really into Adele right now. LOL -

From the January Study edition second study article paragraph 10:
We can use the Memorial season as an opportunity to look through our wardrobe, our movie and music collections, perhaps even the material stored on our computers, smartphones, and tablets.
If I were going to a place where Jesus would be present, would I feel uncomfortable wearing this clothing?
If I did wear it, would it be obvious to all that I am a follower of Christ Jesus?
Would Jesus be entertained by watching this movie or by listening to this music? If he borrowed my cell phone or tablet, would I be embarrassed by what he saw there?
As you consider the subject matter of a video game, ask yourself: ‘Would I find it difficult to explain to Jesus why I enjoy playing it?’
Our love for Jehovah should compel us to get rid of anything that would be inappropriate for a disciple of Christ, regardless of the cost involved.Would Jesus play Xbox or PS4? Madden or FIFA World Cup? Does Jesus like selfies or food pics? How can my clothes make it obvious I'm a follower of Christ? Maybe an "I <3 Jesus" t-shirt, that should do the trick.
Seriously though are they really trying make this a yearly habit among JWs? Have everyone go through all their stuff once a year? Ridiculous, I don't see anyone actually doing this. What's next the Elders have to come to your house for a friendly inspection?
