JWs would say the bible is mainly for people living in the "last days" and people in ancient times had miracles, eyewitness testimony, and texts where read at the synagogues etc. The light keeps getting brighter blah, blah, blah. LOL

A big question, why writtings or book?
by Crazyguy inwe often have debates on this site about what was written in the bible and why.
there are also debates about which bible is better .
then there's the debate about if the quran is really the better book or more accurate.

1975 and the burning question/s??
by UnshackleTheChains inok. so i'm sitting there at the convention.
the video comes up about 1975 and the fact that the faithful brother in the video maintained his faith in the bible by adhering to the scripture that says:.
'no one knows the day or the hour as to when the lord is coming'.

They are trying to inoculate the sheep for when this issue is brought up.
For them to state this during a convention only means that they are loosing followers over this issue. Going apostate has got to be at an all time high then ever before in history due to the internet.
Hey assholes, you inspired from god mother fuckers are the ones who came up with the date. own it!I think they are trying to draw a parallel between 1975 and the generation teaching. Although the generation teaching didn't set a specific date, it was widely believed that the new system would be here shortly after the year 2000. I think the video wasn't directed at older ones, they were there and they know what happened. Instead it was really meant to be for younger JWs who went through the whole generation disappointment. To try to show that disappointments have happened before (without admitting error) but it is possible to stay faithful. By setting the video series in the past they are also trying to get young ones to believe they are part of some special heritage passed on from generation to generation.

Grooming as a Witness
by Jules Saturn ingrowing up as a teenager, i would occasionally get some counseling for having my hair a bit too long by a couple of elders in the congregation.
one time i cut my hair shorter than usual and one elder said i was cutting it too short!
so it made me feel like anything i did wouldn't satisfy them.

My belief is that the org doesn't like these hairstyles/beards because it could lead to you identifying with a group of people other than JWs. It's the same reason they don't want young people to dress like skaters, rockers, surfers, athletes, etc. They want everyone who's not a JW to be part of the "out" group.

Im surprised people have voted Stephen Lett. He's a bumbling old fool but i think he genuinely believes the stuff he's saying. I thought it'd be a Tony Tightpants washout.
Maybe that is what he wants people to think. If you rewatch the "we need money" Broadcast he hosted, you'll see he isn't averse to lying to millions of people while talking down to them.

Special Bethelite Speakers
by JW_Rogue ini've noticed that some elders will insist on getting a special bethel speaker for memorials, special talks, or sometimes for no reason at all!
i believe they are trying build connections they can use later, but who pays for it?
the congregation does and as a former account servant i can tell you airfare isn't all that cheap.

$1100, cheaper than for a Circuit Assembly
Every 3 years doesn't seem so bad. I think the problem is that some Elders use it as a networking opportunity and want to know all the Bros from Bethel, when that isn't really what special talks are supposed to be about.

ET phones home
by Coded Logic ina nearby star, ross 128, about 11 light years away, seems to be putting out some rather remarkable radio waves.
discovered by the arecibo observatory in puerto rico (the one shown in the move contact) other observatories like the allen telescope array are set to begin observations in the next couple of days to make sure the signal really is coming from interstellar space and isn't caused by instrument malfunction or radio waves bouncing off satellites.
it could be anything at this point (but very-very unlikely aliens).

Satan works in mysterious ways, he would love for us to believe that there is other intelligent life out there. Then maybe we would question the whole genesis account of creation. I for one am determined not believe any evidence that life may exist on other planets just as I deny all the evidence for evolution right now. JK

Now I could see doing this everyone once in awhile, if it is an excellent speaker but some of these guys are just flat out dull. There are local brothers in the circuit who are better. Anybody else notice this trend?

Loyalty - Part of the New Personality (S-341a-18-E 5/17)
by wifibandit inloyalty—part of the new personality (s-341a-18-e 5/17).
note to the circuit overseer:.
use this outline for the tuesday service talk from september 2017 through february 2018. you will need to prepare your own 30-minute service talk for use after the watchtower study.

"Love for Jehovah should never be separated from the personal attachment that a couple have for each other (Mt 22:37)"
What it means is that they want you to equate love for Jehovah (WT Org) with love between a couple. Basically if someone slows down spiritually, that must mean there is a problem in the couples relationship. It's ridiculous but lots of JW women buy into it, thinking a successful marriage is a product of love for God.

Comparing 1987 to 2017 --- cart witnessing
by pleaseresearch intake a ride with me back to 1987. picture yourself in your town, or city centre.
remember the clothes people wore, the hairstyles etc.... now imagine yourself doing your ministry out on the street, engaging with people, speaking with them, striking up conversations.
now, how would you feel, and what would you say, if you noticed two people appear nearby with a cart.

Actually in those days some bros and sisters would go to busy areas and just hold up the magazines waiting for people to pass by but the counsel was to try to talk to as many people as possible.
