Update: I have now received some "counsel and encouragement" to try to be out in service more and especially on Saturday morning. It was implied that the CO may make a move next time he comes, so I should try to improve before then. The local needs was about taking full advantage of avenues of service. My wife is aware of all of this and seems concerned that I don't seem to care much about keeping my privileges. Mostly she thinks it will make me look bad in the eyes of the congregation, that people will start rumors (which is probably true). -

JWs and "Simple Truths"
by JW_Rogue inin public talks we would always hear about how we knew god's word was the truth because it was simple and clear.
how god revealed the real truth to uneducated and ordinary people.
the problem is that in reality something being simple or clear isn't an indicator of it's truthfulness at all.

JW doctrine on the face of it is reasonably simple but then when you begin to consider things like the sheer number of animals that would've had to have been on Noah's arc, or the logistics of an eternal paradise the apparently simple doctrine has to be continually adjusted and refined with ever more divine interventions and exceptions to the rules. In the end it becomes far simpler to accept scientific explanations and disregard the doctrine that creates endless and needless complexity when examined more closely.
Oh, yes but you're aren't really supposed to examine it closely now are you? They have answers for people who want to be told what to believe, not people who want to learn objectively. Any objective learning will lead to questions which simply can't be answered. JWs want to have the solution to every problem without any effort or work on their part.
New and contradictory explanations were frequent when it came to interpreting the Bible book of Revelation.
Yet JW's could not ignore them.
They had to teach these new and contradictory thoughts, whenever the latest book came out. They do like to have it both ways don't they? They would say that these "deep things of God" have been made clear by Jehovah's holy spirit and the understanding keeps getting clearer. I would say the Revelation book really as a whole wasn't that complicated. It was basically just trying apply everything they could to the JW movement of the 1900s.

Any thought behind your " Avatar"
by The Rebel ini think that's the correct phrase?
anyway when i first came here, that little picture that "the rebel" hides behind, was a self portrait of a very sad man, who simply had too much knowledge.
now i feel after 7 months here, i should repaint that " avetor" give some happiness to the eyes, and a contented smile to the lips.. in short my " avetor" was a self portrait of a man with too much knowledge.

Mine was on the back of an album by a british emo/hardcore band. It is a robot in a post apocalyptic world tying and putting on a red tie. If you don't see how it relates to being a JW then you may be a little slow. LOL -

In public talks we would always hear about how we knew God's word was the truth because it was simple and clear. How God revealed the real truth to uneducated and ordinary people. The problem is that in reality something being simple or clear isn't an indicator of it's truthfulness at all. At one point people believed that the Sun rotated around Earth. A very simple idea and it seemed to explain what was going on but it turned out to be totally false. The reality of the solar system is actually much more complex with many more variables than that original model would have been able to explain. JWs don't want to take the time and effort to explore the true nature of life or existence. Instead they want "Simple Truths" handed to them, that's why they'll ignore anything that gives rise to any new or contradictory explanations. -

NEW BLOOD CARD w/ FORCED COMPLIANCE also LEGALISM
by apocalypse ini have looked around and i don't see this covered, so i am starting a thread.. 1) the new "blood card" goes beyond being just a "blood card".. 2) a new edict concerning compliance.. pay attention to the changes.. first, the new card is termed "advance decision to refuse specified medical treatment".
the big change with the card itself is that it includes an 'override' of your "power of attorney".
this is huge.

Couldn't you also create a newer DPA with two non-witnesses and that would supersede any other DPA? Then you could give it to your Doctor, the Elders wouldn't need to know anything about it. -

Thinking of writing a book about jw's, what should I put in it?
by purrpurr ini've just finished reading alan miller's "fade from the truth", i enjoyed it and i love that it's freely available.
so i was thinking of writing a book of my own.
not an account of my life but more a simple step by step look at jw's and what they are really like?

You can either do a autobiographical type of book, a scholarly criticism of the doctrines or go out on a limb and do a fictional account. It's not about what you write but how you write. -

"But WHY would you want to know those things??"
by stuckinarut2 ini ran into an older sister who has always been very sweet.. it was a friendly chat...yet she pushed for a reason why my family have been missing from meetings for some time.
the question was deflected, until it just had to be said: "well, there have been some troubling and disturbing issues about the society especially the way things were handled during the royal commission, as well as many other issues".. she quickly cut in and said "but why would you want to know these things?
its best not to research and look at those sort of things - so we don't get upset!".

LOL, Why would you want to stay ignorant? Working and striving for the goals of an organization that you really know nothing about? Isn't strange that JW.org has a whole news section where they frequently detail their legal victories and what they consider unfair persecution. Yet, the ARC never made that page because it was neither persecution or a legal victory. It was an honest examination of the top down directives from WT and the effect they have on real people. WT doesn't want JWs to see it. Every time these issues come up in local congregations, the average publisher just thinks that certain Elders didn't handle it well. What they don't know is Elders are being instructed on how to handle these cases. They aren't isolated incidents it's protocol. -

I would fill it out at the kingdom hall so everyone sees you and your witnesses signing the document. Just never give it to the Elders or your doctor. Just keep "forgetting to bring it" eventually they will forget as well. Remember that these documents only come into play when you are unable to answer for yourself. If you're conscious and able to speak for yourself than you can change your mind at any time. -

Twilight and other banned media
by purrpurr inthanks to online media of movies and books i've recently been watching the twilight series.
issues of quality aside i enjoyed it enough.
i mostly wanted to see what the fuss was about and have the fun of seeing a movie that was banned from the platform when it came out.

Watch "The Giver" with a JW and check out the awkwardness as they notice the similarities between the Utopian society and WT.
