If they did discontinue door to door work, it would need to be replaced by some other form of witnessing. Although most JWs don't like the door to door work, the idea of witnessing is so ingrained that just dropping it would trigger major cognitive dissonance. They would have a mass exodus of people leaving.

Tonight's Meeting
by Studyover induring tonight's meeting the brother seemed to read out something along the lines of "you may be helping a poor sister who you think may be struggling, but in turn that sister may be getting financial assistance from the government.
it is always best to stick to jehovah's arrangement in these matters so that help can get to those who most need it, including the worldwide work".
i think it may have been an article about social media platforms initially and how they should be avoided and then this was mentioned.

JW_Rogue
They did mention "the arrangement" which basically means let individuals in either the person's field service group come up with the funds or if that fails the congregation. Only in the rarest cases would the world wide work funds be used to actually help a brother or sister.

World Wide Work Resolution Doubled Overnight
by JW_Rogue induring covid-19 crisis our hall decides to double the amount sent to hq from our local account.
the resolution is unanimously supported, no questions asked.
has anyone else had this happen?.

I bet JWs would be willing to donate more to keep the situation as it is now - not physically going to meetings, no door-to-door, etc.
If they go all online they'll lose a lot of members, they need the tight group structure to keep people in line.

It includes the insurances that were separate so that should be it. We were told what the resolution was but they forgot to take a vote. I think ours tripled.
What do you mean by insurances?

“I’m young and healthy so coronavirus won’t affect me” (why we need to stop this disease at ALL costs!)
by slimboyfat ineven if you are young and heathy there are very good reasons to fear this disease and take drastic actions to avoid it individually, and halt it together as communities.
not only would it be traumatic as a society to lose so many old and unwell family members and friends, but survivors of the disease may suffer significant health problems in the future.
survivors of the first sars virus in 2003 have suffered significant lung problems.

Why the change?
by Fadeaway1962 inpossible cancelling the memorial after years of experiences of bro/sis under nazi , communist oppression and many other countries still conducting the memorial under threat of death that the governing body is listening to the superior authorities regarding this virus pandemic.. could it be that after taking control of the k/halls that the branch/governing body would be responsible for any disobedience to the civil authorities and liable for any deaths.. they would have left upto the local body of elders and encouraged obedience to god rather than men and a lack of faith in jehovah to protect his people..

I was thinking they would have the memorial in people's homes in groups of say 25 or so but the rumor is they are going to do a stream of the service and partakers can make arrangements at home.

look closely at he picture of “russian” police breaking in to what appears to be a utility shed.. first, you’d have to be a complete moron to believe anything you see.. the “police” are shown using a garden pic to open a door.

blondie, stillin, DD, JW_Rogue,
Are you kidding? Do you want to say you really don't understand the difference between pictures, videos etc. clearly provided for illustrative purposes, and those presented as depicting real events and attributed to a government source? Can't speak for others but I was really just making a side point of how most of their photos and videos are fake. The footage I've seen from Russia looks very real and I have no reason to doubt it. The things going on over there are serious but WT is making it worse by saying openly in the study WT that brothers should hide literature and meet in secret. Seems they are trying to make more martyrs than necessary.

Question from yesterdays persecution article...
by JW_Rogue inwhat are you resolved to do if under ban?.
i wonder how many people were thinking about how that would be a great excuse to leave!
finally, a good out, you were just too afraid of the persecution.
-
JW_Rogue
I just don't think they should be making martyrs out of people who could simply go on living their lives quietly. They can keep their beliefs, just not the organizational aspects. Seems like WT doesn't really care what happens because if some do get tazed or beaten it will bring more attention to the issue. It's sad that they are buying into it and putting their lives in jeopardy.

They forgot to mention the money laundering part in Russia.
Are they still trying to get donations from these poor people? They should be taking any money they would usually donate and use it to help one another locally.
