Troubling things are definitely going on lately and people should be concerned about the general direction of technology in our lives. The fact that large corporations and increasingly disconnected politicians are guiding the process is alarming. However, connecting it to an ancient book and some sort of "mark of Satan" is a bit much.

UPDATE: Wife Pretty Much Knows That I Don't Believe
by JW_Rogue inwe had a nice long talk and i brought up some things that make me think that this isn't the "truth" and she somewhat agreed with me.
i stuck with things i personally experienced or had knowledge of plus all the changes in recent years.
she agreed on a lot of the points but still believes in god and the bible.

Thanks, everybody for the kind words! We are free from this religion but still have a lot of things to figure out. Might be hard but we're definitely not heading back to JW land. LOL

Update to the update: This is the first year we didn't attend the memorial either live or on zoom. My wife disassociated when confronted by the elders about some statements made to others. I have been avoiding the elders and am now officially inactive. Her mom and couple others in her family still talk to her regularly but the others have distanced themselves. My family is ignoring me except for when they need something or to post passive aggressive FB messages. We are adjusting, right now we have zero social life or any clue how we would go about getting one.

Jw spokesman Says door to door preaching not coming back!
by nowwhat? inhttps://youtu.be/uaaztatkhkg.
hope link works.

If they did discontinue door to door work, it would need to be replaced by some other form of witnessing. Although most JWs don't like the door to door work, the idea of witnessing is so ingrained that just dropping it would trigger major cognitive dissonance. They would have a mass exodus of people leaving.

Tonight's Meeting
by Studyover induring tonight's meeting the brother seemed to read out something along the lines of "you may be helping a poor sister who you think may be struggling, but in turn that sister may be getting financial assistance from the government.
it is always best to stick to jehovah's arrangement in these matters so that help can get to those who most need it, including the worldwide work".
i think it may have been an article about social media platforms initially and how they should be avoided and then this was mentioned.

They did mention "the arrangement" which basically means let individuals in either the person's field service group come up with the funds or if that fails the congregation. Only in the rarest cases would the world wide work funds be used to actually help a brother or sister.

World Wide Work Resolution Doubled Overnight
by JW_Rogue induring covid-19 crisis our hall decides to double the amount sent to hq from our local account.
the resolution is unanimously supported, no questions asked.
has anyone else had this happen?.

I bet JWs would be willing to donate more to keep the situation as it is now - not physically going to meetings, no door-to-door, etc.
If they go all online they'll lose a lot of members, they need the tight group structure to keep people in line.

It includes the insurances that were separate so that should be it. We were told what the resolution was but they forgot to take a vote. I think ours tripled.
What do you mean by insurances?

“I’m young and healthy so coronavirus won’t affect me” (why we need to stop this disease at ALL costs!)
by slimboyfat ineven if you are young and heathy there are very good reasons to fear this disease and take drastic actions to avoid it individually, and halt it together as communities.
not only would it be traumatic as a society to lose so many old and unwell family members and friends, but survivors of the disease may suffer significant health problems in the future.
survivors of the first sars virus in 2003 have suffered significant lung problems.
