  JW obsession....

  hi i'm new here.. i've been dfed for almost 2 years.

  despite the usual familly problems that i have had to deal with, i found i was living life successfully... so happy to be out in the world, experiencing new things and just enjoying the freedom to be me.

  i never really have too much time to worry too much about what i have left behind.

  I think the forums really help. I have friends that i do say stuff to, like the other day when my mother asked if I was going to get reinstated. SInce I haven't been inside a KH except for my father's memorial service for something like 20 years, I told her it wasn't going to happen and that I had done my research. Before my father passed back in January, I had cut all my times and didn't call them. But I felt like I needed to check up on my mom very so often now that she is alone. Oh well, the WT article put an end to that.

  Since you are a newbie, if you haven't found the books, mainly Crisis of Conscience by Raymond Franz. He high up in Bethel back in the 60's, 70s, worked on the Aid book and others and then started noticing somethings didn't add up. He was df'd when he asked some questions.

  So feel free indulge your obession here with us who have been there, done that.

  BORN-INS: If you could go back and Change this.

  a question primarily derected to born-ins....doesn't matter if you're still in or out.. if you could go back in time, let's say to the time you were a teenager, before being baptised.. do you regret not telling your jw parents that you just couldn't do the jw thing anymore and that you wanted out?

  i think about this often that it may have worked out much better not to get baptized, married to a jw, and have to tow that line for decades, feaful to loose family and friends.. in the end that's what happened to me anyway, five years ago and now i have the life i should have had my whole life.. what are your thoughts and feelings on this?.

  I deeply regret getting batized at 16. But it took me another 9 years to quit. I knew I shouldn't have gotten baptized, I really thought there was no way they would pass me, but they did. Yesterday, my mother once again started in with the "it would be so much easier if you would just get reinstated." But it seriously ain't happening. I have been out for 21 years this December 9th.

  I'm not sure how things would have went if I hadn't gotten baptized. Would I have slowly slipped away? And then what would my mom have done or said? I think she would have bugged me all the time until I either totally shut her out or caved and stayed in. Thank goodness I didn't get married and have kids before I left.

  After leaving the Faith, do you celebrate all of the Holidays?

  i could never understand how some who don't follow some of the moral restrictions in the jw faith, are strong against celebrating the .

  religious holidays such as christmas, and easter etc.. do you celebrate the holidays knowing some of their origins?.

  I celebrate them all. I did a lot more when my boys were smaller. For some reason they don't want the Easter Baskets that much when they are in the teens. Last year for Christmas we rented a cabin in Pigeon Forge and these native Floridians had their first white Christmas. It was great!

  Does it drive my mother crazy? Heck yeah, all the more reason to do it! I'm making up for all those years I had to go sit in the library while everybody had parties.

  How would you spend your time?

  let's say it was revealed via the media and scientific community that a planet wide catastrophe such as a large comet or asteroid impact or even a brush with a large planetary body or black hole was emminant and that it was certain to devistate the planet in say 18 months.

  how would you spend the remaining time?

  if the event was considered possibly survivable by maybe a few million what action, if any would you take?

  I would try to finish my degree in the remaiing or time or I would travel to at least Disneyland, since i have never been there. Although it wouldn't be my first time, it would be the first time in a long time, so add getting laid in there.

  i was thinking about all the things i missed out on growing up as a jw.

  many of those things i will never be able to do anyway, like join in any extracurriular activities or go to senior prom.

  but one of the first things i did when i got out if the borg was join a ballroom dance class and go to a nightclub with some of the students in the class.

  Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Midweek Night

  i notice how periodically the wt and/or awake!

  portray inactive jw's as selfishly spending their time washing their ferarri's on a saturday morning or jetting off, excutive class, to cabo san lucas.... since leaving what have you done with your time?

  it would be nice for new and/or lurkers see that we are not all involved in some bacchanalian activity.. i have volunteered for a couple of not-for-profit charity boards and joined a volunteer group that helps people with english and math.

  I have been in college earning an AA and now a BA. Having fun with my children, yes, amusement parks, Disney World, Busch, Sea World. Bowling on Sunday mornings because it is cheaper. Occasionally traveling, sometimes working. And yes, I do volunteer locally when I never did as a JW.

  Of course, right after I left there were some Sunday mornings that I was recovering from the night before. What can I say, I was 25 and tired of being a good girl. But no drugs, except alcohol.

  who saw/ is going to see the SMURFS movie?

  my fiancee went today with his son.. just wondering how many of u went to see it or are planning to?.

  i have no interest in another 3d mass marketed film per se - but its smurfs!!.

  the rebellious part of me wants to go see it just because im free to do so!

  Yes, just thinking about how all those Dubs won't go because the Smurfs are possessed! It was hilarious back then and it is still hilarious. I always loved the story about the kid who took one in on a Sunday morning and the Smurf doll got up and walked out of the KH. But no I will not be going to see the movie. My ex husband's nickname was Smurf and that is the reason I stay away from them.

  Do you still call it The Truth"?

  i spent sometime with a fellow ex jw yesterday.

  we had grown up in the same congregation and left within a few years ago.

  she referred to it as "the truth.

  I spent sometime with a fellow ex JW yesterday. We had grown up in the same congregation and left within a few years ago. She referred to it as "The Truth." I quickly said that in no way was it "The Truth." I think of all the exes I grew up with, I am the only one who has done the research and can see that it isn't "The Truth." Of the 4 of us who were in the same graduating class, 3 have left and one is wishy-washy.

  Do you ever refer to it as "The Truth"? And why?
