Thanks everyone for the kind words. My mother has always been very good to my children who have never been in. My son is more than willing to help out with anything my mother needs transportation or otherwise. This is really for the best since, he shouldn't have to miss any of his evening college classes and I won't have to miss work or my college classes. And I know she will be taken care of.

As soon as I saw the number I knew something bad had happened. Seems my mother (71) has breast cancer in her remaining breast. Her first time was in 2001. I volunteered my son's services for taxiing back and forth or whatever is needed. I know my presence would not be appreciated. The problem is people who don't understand the situation and them thinking I should make all the effort to get the seperation taken care of. The only thing that would make my mother happy with me is if I returned to the fold. Umm, NO. I have been out since 1990 and no way am I going back. Just needed to share with people who would understand.

I gave mine to my mother, 22 years ago. If I had known I could have taken them to trade in at a bookstore, I would have. Then gotten some of those thick, trashy romance novels.

A History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage. My son had to read it last year for World History AP. I read it, too. I suggest you have each one of the glasses, beer, wine, brandy, whiskey or rum, tea, coffee and Coca Cola.

Finding Armageddon-esque undertones at the Olympic Closing Ceremony
by Flat_Accent inmy dad in particular hasn't shut up about this.. they played john lennon's 'imagine' at the closing ceremony - fantastic song, though the actual message would seem to clash with that of the olympics.. anyway, one of the lines is of course "imagine no religion.".
well i've never heard such a kerfuffle about a song lyric in this house since lady gaga was bluffing with her muffin.. .
i like how the only thing they can pick up on for the sunday circle-jerk is a song that was written 41 years ago, the composer of which is now dead, albeit untimely.. .

Back in 1985 I was actually attending a community college while still in. I had a speech class and another student who was highly religious but not JW, did his speech about songs that should be censored. The professor was so upset that he had included Imagine and particularly the line about no religon. It didn't help that his speech was supposed to be 5-7 minutes long and it was 23.
Too bad it took me another 5 years to leave. And it is a great shame that we lost John Lennon.

Anyone in Miami?
by sseveninches inwhere you're an ex-jw or still a jw, if you live in miami, florida (broward/palm beach county is cool too), i want to hear your story.
i've already given mine, but i'll tell it again just for the purpose of this thread.. i was researching masturbation because of the fact that the wt makes it out to be such a bad thing despite admitting that it isn't even mentioned in the bible.
along with that, i was researching "porneia" in general, and then i discovered this site.

My uncle's 2nd wife was from Davie and others had moved up from that area. I remember going to Hialeah for an assembly at the horse track. I thought that was rather funny. But I am in the center part of the state, not too far from the Mouse.

Never having received a birthday greeting from your parents.
by Holey_Cheeses*King_of_the juice. inmy wife turned fifty five the other day and i pen this from her perspective.. "happy birthday".
a harmless, yet meaningful expression of recognition from one's parents that they appreciate having brought you into the world.
for many it is a special day to be remembered, and to acknowledge that you are remembered.. in all her years of life my wife has never been given a birthday greeting from her parents.
