jehovah's witness children will continue to doorknock neighbourhoods with adults who have failed to gain police background checks after a bid to stop the practice failed this week.. gippsland carpenter steven unthank, a former member of the religion who says he was abused as a teen by a church elder, was given approval by victoria's chief magistrate to take the unusual step of launching a private prosecution of the religion over its refusal to require ministers to gain police checks, but says he cannot afford the $350 fee for filing the charges.. mr unthank yesterday said he could not pursue the religion on his own.. he said it was a disgrace that neither victoria police nor the justice department would enforce the working with children act, which requires ministers of religion to gain police checks before working unsupervised with minors.. the religion's corporate arm in australia, the watch tower society, says it does not believe its ministers need to obtain background checks to work with children because they do not typically work unsupervised with children.. ``it's an absolute beatup,'' a spokesman said.

so glad i'm out of my ex-wife's jw family. her brother, an elder in the midwest, had his kids baptized at 9 and 11 years old.

i was absolutely disgusted, but he was quite a self righteous terd. i feel sorry for those kids. i'm sure one will grow up to be an very righteous jw (with skeletons in the closet) and the other will drug up and/or slut up.

we're taking a very different direction in the story telling aspect, but the theme will be the same.

generation overlap continues to baffle me. they pulled that one out of their a$$es.

does anyone know jws who are still confused about it, or questioning it? of course the brainwash answer is, even though we don't understand it now, new light will come.

yeah, unfortunately i think he's on thin ice w/ the law and he either has drug friends or a love bomb from the congregation.

similar situation with my teenage parents, they either had their heavy drug user friends or jws, so they found and got love pounded with the jws.

extreme circumstances bring extreme measures. but society (not wtbts) has its own idiocy, so whatever works, just leave me out of the jw stuff as i'll never be a friend of anyone who actually believes in jw crap, including df'ed, ex-jws, etc.

does it keep my old friend out of jail? who cares. he can't read my novel.....a jw love story w/ lots of secular positive reviews and optioned for a tv show.

as a writer i know my most important relationship is to writing. romance second. friends second. anyone in my way gets cut off. i guess df'ed. ;)

yeah, my buddy from high school is on his third arrest, didn't tell me what drugs he was on, but manditory AA and he's using the jws as his higher power. he's been out ever since high school, but looks like he'll lose seeing his kid, going to jail, whatever if he doesn't do AA.

his only excuse for jws was that it's the only god he knows. and he can't read my novel or contact me b/c of my apostasy under their definition, and that i host a radio show called drinks-with-tony, which he saw as a red flag. i told him my radio show is with many writers who are in AA or used to be junkies and can't touch anything so it's often 'tea with tony.'

eff it. there's no reasoning with anyone who goes back to the jws, especially when they have drug charges on them. welcome to the love bomb.

i'm sure AA will be tolerated until he finishes whatever the court mandates, then there will be a heavy push to get him what he really needs, a good spiritual cleansing.

i was actually looking for this friend for years, and found him just in time he was lost back into the cult. but if he was a heavy user, i doubt there would have been much connection anyway.

so my mother calls me on thanksgiving thursday and tells me about a fellow in her kh that i knew quite well.

he grew a beard years ago and stopped field recruiting, but kept going to the kh several times a month as his wife was still active.

the elders never really tried to show concern for his depression, but always bugged him about the beard.

wow, this is news to me. back in the '90s, there was no kingdom hall funerals for inactive, suicides....it had to be done at a rec center or somewhere, and there was the compassionate, yet reluctant elder who had to stick his neck out and probably got a hand slap for doing the service.
