I realise you are playing devil's advocate but here is the answer.
Radiocarbon dating is very reliable. However it is only used to date samples up to about 10 000 years old. Using it to date a fossil would be like using an egg timer to measure the speed of a glacier.
Fossils are dated using a variety of radiometric techniques. In many cases more than one type of isotope can be identified in the same sample and their results compared.
