  hi does anyone know any good articles or videos about how old mankind and the earth are and carbon dating?

  .

  i've just started looking into it but there seems to be a lot of conflicting ideas over accuracy so i'm unsure what to think.

  Hooby - You linked a pseudoscientific article written by a creationist charlatan who either didn't understand the paper he/she did violence to or did understand it and did violence to it deliberately.

  Then we have to add another level of deceit when creationists like yourself quote the article written by the charlatan even though you don't understand the article and haven't read the original paper to see for yourself how your creationist charlatan is doing violence to it.

  The article is about how rare mutations contribute to the risk for disease. It also explains the 'excess of rare variation across the exome' by examining the population explosion that occurred around 5000 years ago.

  Nowhere in the article - not even on one occasion - do the authors mention your bogus term 'genetic entropy'.

  Please read the article before you try to tell us what it is about.

  what started as news of a man and woman being found unconscious on a park bench 12 days ago is escalating into an international incident.. sergei skripal had worked as a double agent for british intelligence mi6 before he was discovered and imprisoned in russia in 2006. he was later flown to england as part of a spy-swap in 2010. on sunday 4th march he was discovered along with his 33 year old daughter yulia close to a shopping centre in salisbury.. since then the story has become increasingly bizarre.

  a policeman who was first to attend the scene also became critically ill and remains in hospital.

  government scientists at porton down have confirmed that the cause is a russian military-grade nerve agent novichok.

  The United States and its European allies are expelling dozens of Russian diplomats in a coordinated response to the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yuri.

  Twenty countries are expelling a total of more than a hundred diplomats/spies in the biggest diplomatic expulsion in history. The US are throwing out 48 diplomats in and closing the Russian Consulate General in Seattle.

  Twelve Russian diplomats at the UN who are described by the State Department as "intelligence operatives" who have "abused their privilege of residence in the United States" have also been given a week to leave.

  The decline in violence and murder rates in society and the increase in personal safety, human rights, rights of children, end to slavery, cruel punishments and many more factors make this the best time to live in all of human history.

  Hooby has copy-pasted from a creationist website that reports on other creationists who have butchered a bit of excellent genetic research that shows the human population has exploded only in the past few millennia. Exactly the point we had to explain to Venus earlier.

  Why are there more sisters than brothers at the Kingdom Hauls?

  i have always wondered why there are more females than males in all of the congregations that i have visited?

  some of these females are in their 70's so maybe their husbands have died and women just live longer.

  or could the reason be that years ago men were the breadwinners and women stayed home to raise the children thus they were home during the week when the jdubs came a knocking?

  If I stood next to my closest friend and said, “Stu, your name is like honey on my lips, I’m out of my depth in your love, I love feeling your arms so strong around me…’ I think he would get out of dodge. I find it hard to sing such lines to a man I worship and love in the agape and not eros sense. Agape love requires a different approach. I think the church gets confused about the difference.

  Some songs are inadvertently erotic. For example ; “Jesus take me as I am, I can come no other way, draw me deeper into you.” I’m not seeking to be crude. In fact there are far worse examples but in the interest of decency I won’t post them. In the cold light of day the lyrics would look semi pornographic or at the very least not out of place in a Jackie Collins novel and yet we sing them all the time. I read some lyrics to my unchurched mate and he was wiping tears from his eyes in laughter.

  The fact that so many men are aggrieved does indicate there is some problem somewhere, as does the incredibly steep decline in male church attendance. We cant write it all off to men being out of touch with their emotions etc. I was in a church recently and the worship leader opened proceedings by saying “Jesus wants to romance you this morning…” I did find it a bit tricky to engage with. - Carl Beech Head of Christian Vision for Men (CVM), an international evangelistic men’s movement.

  There is a significant genetic factor in the tendency to religiosity. It would not be surprising if there is a gender bias in this regard.

  AS TD said above JW religion is emasculating. Evangelical christianity likewise.

  I read the first link, I wonder if you have actually read the second one?

  I am not qualified to comment on whether the data support the view that humans are becoming less belligerent or not. If you have read 'The Better Angels of Our Nature' in full you will know that it is full of evidence for an improvement in the human condition which is unaffected by any errors in statistics.

  It is a compelling book that any ex-JW would benefit from reading.

  I'm not sure you will get a definite answer on this. However, you can make your most educated conclusion yourself - scratchme

  Actually the science is very good on these questions. The universe is 13.7 billion years old. The total mass of the universe has even been calculated. Earth is 4.5 billion years old.

  Life first appeared around 3.8 billion years ago - although if you want consensus you can go for 3.4 billion years when the evidence is not disputed. The origin of Homo sapiens is less exact because there was no such thing as the first human (see video above) so there that date is open to debate depending on how we categorize ancient hominids.
