police confiscated photographs, bank cards, money and electronic devices from the houses they searched, said lopes.. a criminal case was opened against a man named alam aliev, who will be kept in pretrial detention until july, members of the religious group said.

But Russia/Putin doesn't care.

Appealing to values of universal human rights, personal freedoms and liberal democracy is to miss the point completely. In Russia these things are not even virtues. Putin - and millions of his ardent supporters - is motivated by Eurasian nationalism and collectivism. The Russian Orthodox church is an very important part of that and any group that refuses to join the party will be suppressed.

JWs are not important enough to any western government for them to receive any meaningful support against Russia. Writing letters to Russian officials about religious freedom is as useful as writing to Hitler about multiculturalism.

Things will never get better for JWS under Putin.

i have come across this individual in the course of some local history research - back in the late 18th c his aunt and her husband owned the estate where i now live and his parents settled nearby.

he gets credit for a victory at ogdensberg in the war of 1812.. is 'red george macdonnell known to the average american/canadian or is he an obscure figure?

Neanderthals - Meet Your Ancestors

tonight (sunday, 13th may) at 20:00 on bbc 2 ... for neanderthal believers, agnostics and deniers.. this first programme in a two-part series investigates what neanderthals looked like and and how they lived in their ice age world.

it turns out that almost everything we thought we knew about them is wrong.

they weren't hunched, grunting, knuckle-dragging ape-men at all.

EQV - Initially paleontologists had a few fossils to go on. Neanderthals were clearly hominid but not Homo sapien. More and more samples were discovered allowing scientists to say more about their anatomy. Sites where they lived and died were discovered revealing facts about their culture.

Then geneticists were able to recover some samples of DNA and it appeared that they never bred with humans. With improved techniques more of their genome has been decoded showing that we did in fact share some ancestry with them.

Science progresses constantly as new discoveries opens up new possibilities for research.

Your ignorance is not interesting to anybody. Read a book FFS!

is it uk only as i have heard family throughout the uk attend these events (jw only) of course !.

what is the purpose of these events and how long have the dubs being doing so ?

They are called a 'ceilidh' - pronounced 'kay-lay'.

some might call this faith cold, strict, dogmatic but they're just trying to follow rules and give back to god.

Creation: Science has glossed over how consciousness and life entered the universe, that's a pretty big thing to miss but everything has it's limits.

Actually it has done no such thing. Progress in the field of abiogenesis is very exciting. The most promising ideas are coming out of bioenergetics. Would you like me ot suggest some reading material?

JWs are required to submit to the incredibly stupid dogma that humans have only been on earth for just over 6000 years. That is jaw-droppingly ignorant!

Humans evolved from non-human ancestors over millions of years. This much is beyond sensible dispute. How many books would you like me to suggest on this topic?
