  New Life begins at conception

  That is a very loaded use of the word 'life'. A cluster of cells is not a human being. A 30 week fetus is. Somewhere between those two points is a sensible cut-off. The real world is not so simplistic.

  In the case of children, doctors should be granted permission by courts to administer blood without hesitation. The state has a duty to protect children from neglectful parents.

  Except in extreme circumstances, I cannot see the difference between late-term abortion and murder.

  Exactly where the line should be drawn is a difficult challenge. At present in the UK abortion after 24 weeks can only be carried out if there is 'grave risk' to the mother's health or 'severe foetal abnormality'.

  In fact all the Abortion Act of 1967 did was to provide a legal defense for abortion where doctors believe there is a risk to the 'physical or mental health' of the pregnant woman or her existing children. In practice we do have abortion on demand.

  I would favour lowering the limit to 20 weeks. Advances in medicine are lowering the age when premature babies can survive.

  The Watchtower are Right About Blood...

  ... but, they fail to take note of one important detail.. i believe that if we are going to have any chance of reasoning with a jw about blood, this is the place we need to begin.. don't try to convince them that it was only a dietary law.

  it wasn't, and they will never go along with it.. don't tell them that saving a life is more important than obeying a law, even a seemingly trivial one.

  they take pride in obedience.

  I still think it is a very persuasive objection to the blood doctrine. As a JW I could not have refuted it.

  If it is true then FS activity will plummet.

  The only reason I can think of would be to reduce legal exposure. They want to create a scenario where they are not liable for the activities of congregations, elders and individual publishers. Maybe this is a step in that direction.

  European data protection laws might also be a factor.

  Hi Cerise welcome to the forum. Don't take Nathan's comments personally, he is equally unpleasant to everybody. He's like Jack Nicholson but not as funny.

  The Watchtower is a very small world where 'six degrees of separation' is more like 3 or 4. I would suggest avoiding mentioning your JW past to anybody you don't know well. Don't be tempted to bait the idiots at the trolleys either.

  here is australia the race commissioner has claimed senator o'sullivan is in violation of racially derogatory language.

  senator sullivan has said the biggest threat to biosecurity is ' some bloody old chinaman that brings in his favourite sausage down the front of his undies' chin tan said using the word chinaman is offensive.

  makes you wonder is englishman or australian man or scotsman is also just as offensive.

  Favourite New Film

  l recently went to watch green book , which l thought was excellent , it had everything , it took me though the whole range of emotions , from anger to joy , laughing then wanting to cry .

  the quiet dignity of dr shirley mixed with volatile nature of tony lipp and seeing their emerging friendship was wonderful .

  what really shook me was that these attitudes existed in my lifetime , not that long ago .
