Investigative reporting is important and should be protected. Assange is no investigative reporter. He dumped masses of secrets into the public domain - some of which needed to be exposed but much of it did not. He harmed governments for no good reason, assisted the GRU, and put the lives of security personnel at risk. He is a narcissist.

The charges of sex offences have been dropped long ago. He was arrested for skipping bail in the UK.
Knowingly or not he became an agent of the GRU. A British court will have to judge whether he should be extradited to the USA. Free speech is essential in a democracy but governments also need confidentiality in national interests.
i've been trying to learn more about how scientology works in regard to how they investigate, interrogate, and discipline their members, and how similar their methods are to jehovah's witnesses.
i am currently pimo, and while i have never faced a judicial committee, the elders have tried to investigate me.

To be fair nobody can prove there is no god as long as we are vague about the meaning of 'god'. What we can prove beyond all reasonable doubt is that the god of christian theism does not exist.
Having said that, I think the standard of debate on both sides leaves a lot to be desired.

I just think that if a topic is starting from an assumption of the basics of xtian faith and wanting to discuss a particular doctrine from scripture they should be allowed to do that. We are in danger of creating a political and anti-religious monoculture on the forum.
