alex - thank you for your offer to have a conversation about evolution.. i accept the scientific evidence that all life - including humans - evolved from a common ancestor through unguided evolution over millions of years.

this isn't even a controversial position in the scientific community.. the evidence rests on the data from many interconnected fields including paleontology, comparative anatomy, geology and especially genetics.

it is no exaggeration to say that the evidence for your own non-human ancestry is contained in every cell in your body.. it is my experience that jws are generally quite ignorant (not in a pejorative sense) of the scientific case.

Hi Alex - Thank you for your reply but you are off-topic right from the start.

The origins of amino acids and protein molecules is NOT part of the field of evolution. It is abiogenesis and as you will see in my OP I asked that we stick to the topic of evolution in this thread. JWS always confuse the two which is why I stipulated that.

Evolution is about how the many millions of species that have ever lived all originated from a common ancestor.

I am happy to start yet another thread about abiogenesis and share a lot of the latest evidence with you on that but I think it would be better to focus on one thing at a time.

Over to you to start again.

my dad asked this question to a couple of witnesses and they wondered for a minute and said; .

“i never thought about it, i’ll have to ask the elders”.

Actually evolution is nothing like that at all. Natural selection acts like a chance accumulator but we can get into that in detail in the new thread.

It is my experience that JWs are generally quite ignorant (not in a pejorative sense) of the scientific case. I would be keen to listen respectfully to your reasons for rejecting the evidence.

Shall we begin by looking at the evidence from DNA or is there a different aspect that you would prefer to discuss? My only proviso is that we try to avoid copy-paste and that we separate abiogenesis as a separate topic. I'm in the UK so there will likely be frequent delays in replying to your posts.

i admit to not being very well informed about the watchtower's view on blood transfusions.

i have a couple of questions that i hope someone here is able to answer.. i understand that the watchtower now considers it to be okay to receive blood fractions.. my first question is: are all fractions considered to be permissible?

and if not, specifically which fractions are not permissible?.

Have you ever read about the history of oxygen levels and how it has influenced the evolution of life? Sean B Carroll has an excellent book on the topic. Did you know that the evolution of lignin played a vital role in the rise of oxygen in our atmosphere?

How familiar are you with the scientific evidence for evolution?

Would you be open-minded enough to discuss it?

Humans evolved from non-human ancestors over millions of years of unguided evolution.

This statement if a fact beyond all sensible debate.

Can this be true: GB to court - NBC ??

is this a bad joke or "fake news"?.

nbc new york is claiming "attorneys are expected on monday to announce the filing of lawsuits in king's county supreme court against eight members of the governing body of the jehovah's witnesses for alleged child sexual abuse claims.".

Alex - Of course it's true that there are a few 'bad apples' in every organisation.

The problem with the Watchtower is different. Among law enforcement and child welfare organisations all over the world it has gained a reputation of being worst possible example of how to endanger children. For lots of reasons it has created a perfect haven for pedophiles. Legal settlements has cost the organisation eye-watering amounts of money and now for the first time individual members of the GB are going to be held to account.

It will be fascinating.
