I agree with SBF. The GB were not wrong when they constantly reminded their members that neglecting meeting attendance could result in leaving the 'truth'.
Faith-based beliefs need constant reinforcement by the rest of the group.
so why do you think org went online?
they were selling khs left and right for years.
plus video talks and new building for filming videos.

i was told that minimus was talked about on six screens by someone who said “minimus is a racist “.
i just want to set the record straight and say he is a great guy and loves everybody equally.
race and color does not make a person better or worse.
Don't worry, if you've never been attacked you've never stood for anything.
interesting video from carl benjamin.. apparently, some philosopher is arguing that 2 + 2 doesn't always = 4; sometimes it equals 5.. this is madness, utter madness.
i'm a scientist; objective reality does exist.
the existence of gravity isn't up for debate.
Simonsez - the dichotomy between biological sex and gender is a recent innovation. The word gender used to be limited to linguistics. Your biological sex and your gender are identical. With the exception of a tiny percentage of individuals who suffer from developmental accidents our sex/gender is binary.
Of course there are females who demonstrate personality traits and preferences traditionally associated with men and vice-versa. None of that requires the denial of the fact that humans are a sexually dimorphic species just like our non-human ancestors.

PoMo is a direct result of the failure of Marxism.
Stephen Hick's book Explaining Postmodernism: Skepticism and Socialism from Rousseau to Foucault is brilliant. You know he is right by the visceral reaction of Marxist academics and activists. It's similar to the way JWs attacked Ray Franz.

So humans and animals exactly like us except they never break the law - like mixing two sorts of thread or boiling a calf in its mother's milk. Is that what you mean by 'ideal'?

Diogenesister - I agree. Rousseau's myth of the noble savage seems to have regained popularity in the green movement. Steven Pinker does a good job of showing that pre-state society was 'solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short' as Hobbes claimed.
I'm really curious to know exactly what people like Joel mean when they harp back to some mythical time 'before the fall'. They never seem to be willing to be specific.
anyone here thats a former mormon?
a person in the internet wrote abouth them.
that community could not be more impressive in its cohesion, sincerity, benevolence, decency, patriotism, and faith.. i seen mormons go from house to house before the convid virus.they always seem cheerful.
Hi Carmichael thanks for your insightful post. I love hearing first-hand experiences from other cults. There are so many things in common. Welcome to the forum.

You said 'creation is fallen' - 'from what is ideal'.
What does that mean? What would an 'ideal creation look like?

Fallen from what exactly?
in the early 1980s together with my brothers we decided to started collecting watchtower literature and have them neatly in a library at home.
with the help of our father he gave us all the books bought during the years that he had stored in a big wooden box.. after purchasing all the literature that we had missing from the kingdom hall we decided to write letters to the world headquarters of jehovah’s witnesses in brooklyn new york as well to the british and australian branch office.. unfortunately none of our requests bear fruit as they informed us: “it is doubtful whether they are available anywhere in the world….” (ca february 23, 1983); “unable to supply the old publications you request.” (sa: sg september 20, 1983) “we will keep your letter on our files….”(sa: sg january 22, 1983).. during the years we managed to obtain many of these early books going back to 1879 when this religious organization was started.. through barbara anderson we learned that in 30 columbia heights building new york they had a warehouse storage where they kept many old literature which don kommers the assistant of vern wisegarver was responsible for.
through these publications we learned what exactly was written by charles russell and joseph rutherford regarding predictions that never came to be.
Interesting post Paul thanks. I read a lot of Russell's and Rutherford's books during my transition out of the cult. The Berwick-upon-Tweed congregation had a good collection of old publications. It was so incredibly clear how phoney the whole organisation was right from its infancy.
I remember reading Rutherford describe how many yards it was from the study where he had written his latest ramblings to the factory where it was to be printed and how this very measurement was a fulfillment of prophecy.
He spent a lot of energy raging against Bible Students who opposed his leadership and the 'elective elders', calling them by all sorts of invectives. In the decades since then they haven't got any any more insightful just a lot more professionally managed.
