I think Newton wrote more about theology than science. He had some far out beliefs.

Sir Isaac Newton's date for the end of the World
by LostintheFog1999 inthis uk newspaper carried a most interesting article about sir isaac newton.. apparently, as well as science, newton was interested in calculating the second coming of jesus and the end of the world, which he reckoned would happen in 2060.. https://www.express.co.uk/news/weird/1760879/isaac-newton-doomsday-prophecy-imminent-apocalypse.

Biden running in 2024 🤣
by LoveUniHateExams ini've filed this under news and world events, although i could've posted it under entertainment, lol.
apparently, joe biden will be seeking re-election for another term in the white house.. this, despite a recent poll showing that 70% of people don't want him to run again.. biden just has to be the worst president i've seen.
his gaffes, over-relience on a prompter, and, more than any other president, his refusal to answer journalists' questions, all go to make him top of the list in terms of bad presidents.. it will certainly provide entertainment, if nothing else..

Biden is a figurehead. Will the Democratic party be able to hide him from scrutiny enough to protect the facade?
It's a sad state of affairs when a country the size of the USA look like they are going to resort to a re-run of Biden v Trump. It's difficult to see how Trump could have picked up any additional support since 2020.
Ron DeSantis looks like an interesting option if Trump doesn't destroy him first.
American domestic politics is a matter for Americans but the world needs an intelligent leader in charge of the Superpower.

The corrosive nature of CRT

it was leaked that a first draft of a letter she was going to write had the claim that jews can't experience racism.. the influence of crt is obvious.
according to this warped worldview, there are two types of people, oppressors and oppressed.

If you have only heard about Gramsci from those who use him as a kind of villain it’s no basis - SBF
Gramsci was a leading intellectual force behind 20th century Marxism.
Marxism murdered at least 10 million citizens who were unlucky enough to be born in the wrong place and time. As a philosophy it has proven to be every bit as evil as National Socialism. To defend Marxism or to wish for a revival of Marxism in some new version for the 21st century is the moral equivalent of longing for the philosophy that underpinned Fascism.

Better off PIMA than POMA or POMO.
by ExBethelitenowPIMA inthe situation is many of us are pima and all putting on a front, sometimes saying something we don’t fully believe.
or at least are actually agnostic about but a hope that it’s true.. but it can be useful if someone is really going through a hard time or has something they are very worried about, to say things like well let’s hope there is not much longer of this old system.. this can be useful in an awkward situation where you just don’t know what to do or say.
it’s a little bit of hope that can help when there is nothing else.. my agnosticism just means i won’t look back over decades thinking i wasted my life.

CRT of itself is not a bad thing of course,
CRT is a poisonous lie.
It treats people as members of groups or categories in opposition to other groups. Investigate its origins in Legal studies with Derek Bell and Kimberly Krenshaw et all.
Its destructive effect on society is deliberate, part of the 'long March through the institutions' planned by Antonio Gramsci and put into practice by Herbert Marcusi.
Those who promote CRT have little or no concern for racial inequity. Their objective is to take a short cut to power.
BLM were a recent example of CRT in action. Corrupt, violent, chaotic Marxists who pretended to idolise a dead criminal for reasons of personal profit.
CRT should be unapologetically opposed without compromise.

Ex-B - The proof of the common ancestry of all living things is beyond all sensible debate.
It's in the fossil record - we have an embarrassment of riches of fossils showing the transition between species.
It's also in comparative anatomy, but most of all it is in DNA. The very same proof that is used in courts of law every day to prove paternity or to convict rapists and murderers shows absolutely that humans share a common ancestry with other primates.
Many examples are found in that link to forty topics that I gave you but you were too lazy/afraid to read them. Your choice.

Sorry to hear about your illness, I hope the treatment goes well.
Please have a read at this post that shows why the organisation got it wrong about blood.
Wishing you well.

Just read that Carl Olof Jonsson died yesterday
by slimboyfat infor newbies, who was carl olof jonsson?
he was a jw in sweden who was challenged by a householder in the 1960s, who pointed out to him that secular history books don’t agree with watchtower that jerusalem was destroyed in 607 bce, but instead place the event 20 years later.
the reason the date is important is because it is the starting date for jw chronology which leads to 1914 as the end of the gentile times, and the beginning of the last days, as jws understand it.

'Scholar' and Ratty - you two were not fit to tie his shoelaces.
Carl was an outstanding model of an intelligent independent thinker. The thing cult leaders fear most. RIP

Evolution is a Fact #15 - Robinson Crusoe
by cofty inthere are two sorts of islands.
one sort provides powerful evidence of evolution at a species level.. firstly there are continental islands.
these were once part of larger land masses but they were cut off by rising water levels or the movement of tectonic plates.

Hooby - Migration isn't the issue.
This thread - one of a series of forty that provide evidence for evolution - discusses the very unusual distribution of species on islands; specifically oceanic islands.
What we find is that the first animals to arrive do spectacularly well do to a lack of competition, leading over millions of years to a radiation of species. Sometimes in the case of honeycreepers to dozens of separate species. Frequently these island species are found nowhere else on earth but are similar to species in the nearest mainland.
This is a remarkable example of evolution. If you accept this reality then you already accept the same mechanisms of unguided evolution by natural selection that accounts for all species of animal and plant life on earth.
Another sort of island is continental islands that bean as a chunk of a larger land mass - oceanic islands appeared out of the ocean through volcanic activity.
A classic example of continental islands is Australia and New Zealand that began as part of Gondwana which broke away from Pangea about 250 million years ago. When this happened the ancestors of placental mammals went off on one direction and the ancestors of marsupials went the other.
Today we find 223 species of marsupial in Australia.
During the Late Cretaceous Period South America and Australia were joined to either end of Antarctica to form what was left of Gondwana which began to unzip in the Triassic.
This leads to a testable prediction. If evolution is true then it ought to be possible to find fossils of marsupials with the correct antiquity in Antarctica.
In his book ''Cold,'' published in 1931 Dr. Lawrence M.Gould wrote ''I had rather go back to the Antarctic and find a fossil marsupial than three gold mines.''
Guess what?
In 1982 an expedition funded by the National Science Foundation found fossils of more than a dozen species of marsupial on Seymour Island right on the ice-free corridor between South America and Antarctica. The fossils were dated to between 35 and 40 million years ago and were similar to those found in South America at the same time.
Evolution is testable science.
Since you accept the adaptive radiation that gave us the forty species of honeycreepers on Hawaii there is no difference to accepting the common ancestry of the 223 species of marsupial in Australia - or all the mammals that inhabit the rest of the world.
Congratulations - you are an 'evolutionist'! Let me have your address and I will send you your club badge.

Here is another example of adaptive radiation from the southern hemisphere. Just like the honeycreepers who descended from a common ancestor who made it to Hawaii, all marsupials descended from a common ancestor who landed in Australasia and South America having become isolated following the breakup of Gondwana 200 million years ago.
