Very good point. It would be interesting to test that!

Elders as Parasites!--You Can't Blame EXJW's!
by Atlantis inno, you can not blame exjw's for that statement, and the 4 members of this family didn't say it either.. it was your governing body, the president of your watchtower society that said that.as well as upon the egyptians; which means that inorder for a professed christian to be pleasing and acceptableto the lord such must be separate from theworld and clean; hence the cleansing of god’s sanctuaryis involved and includes the removing of the“elective elders” as parasites, and which must takeplace before god’s organization is entirely clean.".

I think it's difficult from our perspective to grasp just how divisive Rutherford was. The Bible Students who left the organisation because of the radical changes he enforced were branded as 'The Evil slave Class'.
I remember old JWs back in the 70s reminiscing about how traumatic it all was. Occasionally I would meet elderly people when going door-to-door who had left the religion in that period. Of course some groups who follow Russell still exist.

Yes absolutely.
In fact I think Russell began to move in that direction towards the end of his life.
Rutherford was a power-hungry and abusive tyrant. Having read many of his books I think we can also say he was not very intelligent.

'Elective Elders' were a favourite topic of Judge Rutherford. It was not elders he objected to, it was the right of local congregations (or companies) to appoint their own elders by voting them into office.
Rutherford wanted full control of congregations in a way that contrasted with Russell's more laissez faire style of leadership.
Rutherford even found antitypes in obscure Old Testament prophecies that apparently foreshadowed the 'power-hungry men' that were the target of his ire. He wrote a whole book on it in which he fulminated page after page. It was reading those sort of books that convinced me the organisation was no different from any other dysfunctional corporation - in fact it was worse than most.

I left a comment that is currently 'awaiting moderation'. It won't get published as it questions their shoddy research.

Will God resurrect our beloved pets? What do you think?
by Pallbearer inthe watchtower doesn't hold out any hope for us ever seeing our beloved animals again.
i find it very difficult to believe that god -- a god of love -- would refuse to resurrect an animal that we had become so attached to.
over the years i have bonded with no less than four (4) dogs, all of which were/are like family to me.

The natural world is perfectly designed to maximise the suffering of conscious creatures.
For millions of years every animal that has ever lived has died from hunger, disease, predation, exposure or parasites.
Evolution has produced a world of amazing lifeforms - none of which would be possible without wholesale death and destruction.
Sorry if that is not comforting but the reality of nature far more awe-inspiring than the Watchtower's Disneyesque parody.

"Doubting Jesus' Resurrection" by Kris D. Komarnitsky
by bohm inthis is a very simple idea i had not encountered before, and i hope other will find it interesting to.
the essay is taken from http://www.infidels.org/kiosk/article809.html, but i would also strongly recommend the more recent answer to wlcs critisism of the argument at: http://www.infidels.org/kiosk/article835.html.

(1) people don't willingly die for what they know is a lie
But they do die for things they wrongly believe to be true.
(2) group hallucinations are impossible.
There are lots of examples of groups convincing themselves of shared delusions. There are some spectacular examples from the Hindu and Roman Catholic faiths.
Nice to know that the holy spirit told you that you are right and anybody who disagrees is going to hell.

Providing salvation is not that important
by pixel inthe washtowel has a crazy obsession with diminishing the important of jesus' sacrifice for humankind.
i find this so antichristian.
i mean, how can you ignore scriptures like john 3:16?.

they will tell you that he died as a ransom sacrifice to buy back the life that Adam lost for all mankind. They believe that each of us has inherited sin from Adam and Jesus sacrifice covers - Pete Zahut
Then we agree 100%
Ask a Christian about why Jesus died and Adam or inherited sin won't even feature in the answer.
To christianity Jesus' suffering was a vicarious PUNISHMENT not a legal transaction.
