"I'm As Mad as Hell - and I'm not going to take it anymore" (First Principles)
by Terry intwo things we all need to know; may already know; have known for a long long time - but nothing at all has changed .... first principles.
these are assumptions that cannot be deduced from any other proposition or assumption.. .

Me - 'Since you have contempt for democracy, how do we get to this state that you call 'how things ought to be', and what would that state look like?'
Terry - 'Wrong. I have contempt for CORRUPTION of Democracy ... I think you are disingenuously misreading because I've been excruciatingly clear.'
<sarcasm>Well I can't imagine where that misunderstanding came from</sarcasm>
- As far as secular politics and democratic elections, I don't see them as "real" but only a sop to masses
- DEMOCRACY: Two wolves and a sheep voting on 'what's for lunch'
- THE VERY BEST THING a Western Democracy can hope for is a slow rot into corruption by the Oligarchy.

Brexit is not bizarre or 'flailing'. It was a rational decision to leave a misguided supranational political project. It was massively supported by the working class. The middle class largely voted remain. The political establishment was defeated by the masses, not just by the vote but by three years of the elite trying, and failing, to reverse the popular vote.
Liberal democracy 1 - 0 Political Elite
But what about my question. Since you have contempt for democracy, how do we get to this state that you call 'how things ought to be', and what would that state look like?

You are calling for the role of RELIGION which is to create an alternative to reality itself.
No I'm not calling for anything. I think liberal democracy is as good as it gets or ever will be.
I have still not got the first clue what your answer is Terry.
I think you could condense this entire thread into three words - 'democracy is imperfect'.

I'm still hoping that you might begin to even hint at an alternative Terry.

JWs In The UK: Jehovah's Witnesses sued over 'historical sex abuse
by pale.emperor inhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51006771.
according to my older brother, my mother now refuses to watch the news in case they mention this story.
funny, when the news exposed the catholic church she turned the volume up.. at least 20 former jehovah's witnesses are suing the group over historical sexual abuse they say they suffered.the group has a policy of not punishing alleged child sex abuse unless a second person, alongside the accuser, has witnessed it - or an abuser confesses.it says its elders "comply with child-abuse reporting laws even if there is only one witness", though, and always tell police if a child is in danger.but one former elder said it had been failing to involve the authorities.john viney, who says he was abused between the ages of nine and 13, by "a distant family member who was an active jehovah's witness", added children were still being abused and the religious organisation was "inadvertently" protecting their abusers.

Great that the BBC are giving this some publicity. It was featured on the BBC news channel this morning. There was also a statement from the Charity Commission that made clear they are still actively investigating and will release their results in due course.

Cynicism but no answer?
How about pragmatism and gradual progress is as good as it gets? And the ONLY way to progress is via liberal democracy with all its faults?
'Democracy is the worst form of government - apart from all the other ones' - or words to that effect by Winston Churchill.

And what would that state look like?

How Can Football (Soccer) Teams Allow Their Players to Participate in "Friendlies?"
by RubaDub ini could never understand how the best football (soccer) players are allowed to participate in these things called friendlies.
aren't the teams and owners afraid of losing their investments of 10's of millions of dollars (euros) to injury?
and it appears that teams just make up their own schedules.. in american football, there is no possible way a team would allow an extra game.

I can't recall who told me this, but they said
They were winding you up Tami

International managers get a very limited time to work with their select squads. Friendlies are vital to developing the team for competitive fixtures.
Club level pre-season friendlies are about fitness, tactical development and trials for new players. Often large clubs include tours to USA and the Far East or Middle East for commercial marketing opportunities.
At youth level (U19s semi-pro) I lost more players to injury in pre-season than in the competitive season.
