I have said a few times that the best way to expose the vacuity of theodicy is to get christians to talk about it.
You are the best ever Joan, thanks.

since learning real truths as opposed to the org's version of truth, has your view of the resurrection changed significantly?
just one example - regardless of psalm 37:9,11,29: matthew 5:5 & revelation 21:3,4, do you now believe that our destination is heaven rather than earth?.

Sea Breeze - Humans have suffered for around 200,000 years and in all that time god has watched passively. Much of that suffering has been caused by decisions God made when he created the world - the natural world is perfectly designed to maximise the suffering of conscious creatures. Your answer sounds pathetically inadequate and detached from reality.

Thanks. If I was still a believer I would have thanked god for a miracle and not wondered why he let me get ill in the first place or why he didn't heal others. He can't lose really.
On the other hand I genuinely understand why believers find faith - and faith communities - to be a powerful ally.

Do atheists ever have doubts about their unbelief? Even for a second? Just wondering! - Iriddle
I can honestly say no. Not even a few years ago when it looked likely that I was dying of metastatic cancer (I'm sorted now) it didn't occur to me for an instant to pray or think about an afterlife.
There are atheists in foxholes.
Boogy - I agree believers should be able to discuss matters of faith without ridicule. On the other hand respectful questions and challenges should always be welcome.

Anon - 152 members of the public died last year involving police contact. Some of those will have killed themselves in vehicle pursuits. Others are counted as stats if they take ill and die in police custody. My son had a suspect who alternated between trying to attack him and collapsing. One minute he was wrestling with him and the next trying to resuscitate him. If he had died my kid would have probably still be filling in forms.
ONE British police officer died last year - TEN in the last decade. Three were shot and one was stabbed. Most of the others died as a result of vehicle crime. Reflect on that before you tell us how British police ought to behave. TEN in a DECADE! THREE shot in ten years in the entire country. One of those was off duty with no protective kit.
UK police approach to violent suspects is outstanding and very safe. We do have a large contingent of armed officers who carry guns in fast response vehicles. They are carefully selected, highly trained and show great professionalism and restraint. They rarely have to fire a weapon.

Good effort.
They could have done with a shield. If that tazer had failed it would have been potentially life threatening. I think there is a time when armed police just have to take somebody out. That was arguably such an incident.
scrolling through the news this morning and i couldn’t help to think we are light years from any leaders crying out peace and security.
jws are going to have to wait another decade or two and see how things develop before they get excited about armageddon coming in their lifetime.

There is no utopia in the world's future. Thank God!
for the record i'm agnostic, never seen any direct evidence of spirits, afterlife, etc.
i've been visiting my mother during this corona ordeal.
a year ago i had a dream i was much older and talking to somebody about how my mom died this year but it was avoidable.
Bethelliesalot - This perfectly illustrates my point. See how wide you have thrown your net!
It goes from relative committing murder/suicide to father of relative getting sick. If people want to see magic they will find it anywhere.
hi friends ,.
is it just me or do others on this forum like to know where posters are from ?
what country state or region you are from ?
HoodwinkedToo - Berwick old bridge built in the early 17th century is almost identical to your bridge in Prague...
It was used as a film set for The Outlaw King as a substitute for London Bridge.
