Bringing Reproach on Jehovah's Name
by cofty inall my jw life i was reminded constantly about the importance of not bringing reproach on jehovah's name.
decisions on whether or not to disfellowship an individual often turned, not on the seriousness of the sin, but on whether the incident was public knowledge and had resulted in bad publicity for the congregation.
i recall a middle-aged lady being reported to the elders for shoplifting a sweet worth less than £1- and the elders' insistence that a judicial committee must be formed because the store manager and staff knew that she was a jw (i successfully argued that all she needed was support for her dreadful family life, but that's another story).

This morning the UK Guardian carries a story that labels Jehovah's Witnesses 'an absolute disgrace' for their refusal to compensate - I suspect the real problem is their refusal to apologise to - the victims of child abuse. A few days ago The Telegraph reported on accusations that the Watchtower is 'selling of assets and moving cash to avoid sex abuse compensation'.
I can only imagine how odious the name Jehovah has become in Australia.
As a child the fear of a future period of persecution was used as an effective weapon to suppress any thoughts of disloyalty. Who could have thought that the authorities would actually come after the organisation for protecting pedophiles?
The excuses for active JWs to cling to the organisation are becoming more tenuous every day.

The Victorian Reason party MP Fiona Patten singled out the Jehovah’s Witnesses for criticism, saying the royal commission into institutional responses to child sexual abuse had examined allegations that more than 1,800 children were abused by 1,006 perpetrators in Jehovah’s institutions.
“Jehovah’s Witnesses reported zero allegations to authorities or police and now refuse to provide redress to victims,” Patten said.
“The Jehovah’s Witnesses are an absolute disgrace.

Inconsistencies is the Preachng Work
by LetTheTruthBeKnown inwith the shutdown of the public preaching work.
some take it to mean all preaching in all forms.
other take it to mean it only includes door to door and cart witnessing, but you can do phone witnessing.. what is interesting is that depending which country you live in the direction that was given what to do is different.. two countries (malta and ireland) that i know of were told explicitly not to do phone witnessing.

Eloquence stop bouncing multiple old threads to promote your campaign.
Why not start an actual thread to discuss the topic?

What has SARS Cov 2 been doing since 2004?
by BoogerMan inin 2002-2004 - during its first time around - that "pandemic" killed 774 people worldwide and then "evaporated.".

Boogboy.
1 - Nobody is more respectful of people of faith than me. Challenging beliefs is not disrespectful.
2 - I NEVER share PMs. As far as I am aware I have never received a PM from you, I might be wrong but if I did it was forgettable and I did not share it.
3 - Your references to 'soul' is a mystery. Not one that I care to know more about. Come back if/when you learn to behave like an adult.

SBF - Interesting. I started listening to Bret Weinstein's podcast series - Dark Matter I think - but gave up eventually. It could do with being a bit more succinct. I might go back to it.
I was reading today the the reports from Spain of early transmission of the virus based on sewage analysis is very suspect. Time will tell.
(Boogy - hush the adults are having a conversation)

Boogy you got banned from the forum (at least) once before for behaving like an obnoxious child. Now you are back under a new moniker doing it again.
Personal attacks are not a substitute for rational debate.

P. Ms Letter to non subscibers to Redress Scheme
by jonahstourguide inspotted this article this morning.
i will try to post a link.. jtg.. australia.. institutions refusing to join the national redress scheme are "doubling down" on the crime of child sexual abuse, prime minister scott morrison says.. mr morrison and social services minister anne ruston have warned institutions they may lose funding and tax concessions if they fail to sign up by tuesday's deadline and will be named and shamed.. "all institutions are doing in not joining is doubling down on the crime and doubling down on the hurt," they said in a letter to 25 institutions.. "we consider it to be reprehensible that you have failed to sign up to the scheme.".
the jehovah's witnesses is among the organisations that has refused to sign up, arguing it does not have the institutional settings of other faith-based institutions that the redress scheme is designed to cover.. senator ruston is set to name the non-participating institutions on wednesday, when she will announce what action the federal government will take against them.. "we urge you to join the scheme not because of concerns about being identified, but because it is the right thing to do," the minister and mr morrison said.. "it is the right thing to do by survivors and their families and it is what every, decent, honest, australian demands.".

Do we know the sum that they are being asked to contribute to the scene?
Phizzy I noticed that you said $250m is that an estimate?
ETA - I just noticed Joey's comments on page one.
I bet it's the compulsory apologies that are a bigger problem for the Watchtower than the money.
