Please Tell Me ...
by snowbird inwhen i use the colloquial expression, "this here," does it irritate you?.
my mother talked - and others down here still do - that way.. she worked like a dog to see to it that her 12 children received an education.
mother deceased in 2005. one of my sisters and i like to use that expression as a bittersweet reminder of her and our victory over poverty and despair.. however, when i use it on here, it rankles a prominent poster.

"creatures"
I laugh whenever I hear that word. My mom says that all the time. She can insult people like you wouldn't believe.
I think of Ernest T. Bass when I hear the word "creature", 'ceptin' he said "creeksture" as in, "She called me a 'creekstur' ".
My mother said "vermin"; and she said "monisters" instead of monsters.

My husband was born in Louisiana but raised in Kansas. Man he can come up with some phrases. I guess he got it from his parents. I tease him about it sometimes. He kills me when he says "wrench this glass out", "long door", "mon back", and "richght cheer". My mother was born in Arkansas so I have my little sayings too.
I had a friend that says fraturday for friday. That kills me!
"This here" is kinda cute!

Too many!
Here's a gospel one that someone on here hipped me too (I think it was Loosie?). Yes, I'm agnostic; but I love this song.

Someone from another forum turned me on to this one. This one is a former Frankie Vallie song.
