Recording of doorstop meeting with JWs
by MrMonroe ini was alerted to the presence of jws in my street, so i grabbed my voice recorder and placed it by the front door.
several minutes later there was a knock, i pressed "record" and opened the door to two jw women.
the recording below runs for 25 minutes.

New book by George Chryssides
by MrMonroe inenglish religious academic george chryssides, who has previously written books and academic papers on the jws and other new religious movements, has a new 300-page book out, jehovah's witnesses: continuity and change.
.
some of his earlier writings have been a bit too sympathetic towards the jws, so i'm wondering if anyone has seen this book .

Who can you trust to admit you have doubts?
by MrMonroe in(that is, doubts).
in margaret atwood's "the handmaid's tale", a futuristic story of life inside a repressive, abusive big brother-style society tightly controlled by religious fundamentalists, there's a passage in which the protagonist is alone with another woman at a state-controlled centre where prayers are generated -- then printed out and read out -- by a machine.
the other woman asks, in barely more than a whisper, "do you think god listens to these machines?

PDF of Advice for Kingdom Publishers (1939)
by MrMonroe ini'm hoping to obtain a copy of the 1939 booklet advice for kingdom publishers.
it's a 16-page booklet that was written, i understand, to help us publishers as they embarked on the very vigorous witnessing campaigns that were largely aimed at provoking police and governments to take action against them.
i'm particularly interested in what specific advice they were given about creating or avoiding situations likely to result in their arrest.

Everyone asked to take their literature back to the KH?
by MrMonroe inmay be bullshit or just confusion, but here's a post at a facebook ex-jw page:.
"so last night i performed one of my occasional meeting attendances, and whilst watching the kids and planning my exit strategy in the event of a walking dead style zombie outbreak, i think i heard them read a letter saying that the brothers are now to destroy all old literature in their possession if it's in bad condition, or return it to the elders if it's in good condition, but you can no longer keep any old literature... hmmm".
anyone know anything about this letter?

The type of publicity the WTS craves
by MrMonroe in"odd spot" in our newspaper the age today:.
"a salvation army worker who handed in $125,000 that fell from an armoured truck in california has picked up a $5000 reward.
joe cornell, who was unsure whether to give back the sack of money, said: "i went down there carrying the bag like i was santa claus.

Another night, another JW dream
by MrMonroe insuch a ripoff when you dream you're back at the damn meetings.
i once dreamed a local (rather liberal-minded) elder, jack hoogendoorn, was smoking a cigar while he was giving a talk on the platform.. last night i was back there again: one elder who suddenly decided he was going to be "encouraging" gave me the latest stats on baptisms, while someone else i was meant to go witnessing with was not-so-subtly probing me about how many magazines i'd been placing lately.
i chose not to tell them i had decided against placing mags any more.
