the watchtower has been known for over 130 years as a great scriptural cherry-picker.
they pick out disparate unrelated verses and combine them to support the wackiest of wacky doctrines.. on the other hand there are many scriptures they almost never address, whether because they contradict wt doctrine or because they simply don't have a clue what they mean or how to spin them to the wt advantage.. one of these is revelation 19:1 that mentions a "great crowd" "in heaven.
" the only time it is ever brought up it is dismissed.

i'm going to make a statement that is simple and direct and i want to ask you if you agree.. before i make the statement i want to give an analogous example so that you can quickly understand my intention.. .
when we decided to put 3 of our children in the finest school possible we turned to private schools with the best reputation.
nothing wrong with that, right?.
Terri, I respectively disagree. Sorry, but as I do feel that the watchtower is crackpot, I find that most JWs that I have met are sincere people who are looking for the truth. It is only after denial of sriptural evidence that contidicts the Watchtower do I see the crackpot come out in some witnesses. But most are God fearing and rational....except for my brother, the JW.

Every single Denomination claiming Christianity makes all of the same goof ball and sometimes dangerous mistakes the Society makes.
Designs - Can you find an amount of scriptures that other Christian organizations do not promote?
What are ignored scriptures from Pentecostal, Protestant, Evengelical, Catholic and Orthodox churches?
I'm not looking to change this thread, but I think the point is that the Watchtower ignores a massive amount of scriptural evidence that contidicts many of their doctrines. As is evident from the examples displayed on these 3 [so far] pages.

how about 'people who twist scripture, twist everything'
sorry, don't remember exactly where that one is.
In one of Paul's letters he say to 'not hold judgement against a man if he holds one day above another' The watchtower can't like that one too I would suppose.
Great posts to you all.

I'd imagine that any scriptures that discribe Christ as King of kings or Lord of lords is easily ignored by the Watchtower as is the scripture that says you are to honor the Son same as the Father,[sorry, forget which one].
I remember that John 8:58 is the scripture in which Jesus declares his Divinity 'Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I AM.'
Sure, my brother [and any other good witness], would answer the 'I have been' is in perfect tense. As a matter of fact, he constantly tells me that Jesus never said he was God, that he knew who he was.
I answer that he was, he is and he will be the same..always. That's why the Jews wanted to kill him. 'I have been' may have sounded strange, but not worthy of stoning to death, right?

weirdest thing ever just happened.. my daughters toy started playing music by itself.

please could someone tell me what is said in a jw baptism?
i was told that jw baptisms are invalid because they do not baptise in the "name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit.
because of this invalid baptism a catholic cannot marry a jw with church approval, i think.
zzaphod wrote "I was never baptised as an infant, so I view my JW baptism as valid."
I do not understand this statement. Are you suggesting that infant baptisms are invalid? In the book of Acts there are many examples of folks being baptised. 'he and his whole household' If you had an infant in your household and you were getting baptised, ofcourse, you'd baptise your infant too, right?. Any family member in my household [and yours] would be included, wouldn't they?

If you can excuse the religion which instigated and carried on the inquisition for 350 years you can excuse anything.
If I may correct you. The inquisition was not a teaching of the Church. Some in the Church started it [in Spain I believe] and it was continued and it is certainly a terrible historical black eye, to say the least.
What can be said? Well, the bible says that the Church contains good and bad people and that Jesus will seperate the wheat from the chaffe. If the Church contains good and bad, then you cannot judge the Church from the bad only, can you? You must look at it's teachings and see for yourself if you are in the faith [again, as scripture states]. Everyone knows that power corrupts, and the more power, the more corruption. The inquisition happened during the centuries known as the Dark ages. There was alot of bad seemingly overcoming the good...but the Church is still there. Through that and other scandels the Church is still there just as Jesus promised. Even if there are terrible people connected to it, you have to know that there are more good people in it than bad, but the bad folks get all the press. So it is not the religion which conducted the inquisition, but corrupt people in positions of power. I hope you can see the difference.

You just can't get rid of the infallable Pope!
Of course there are no infallable Popes. The promise that Jesus made to his Church was that it's teachings would be protected through all generations and ages and in the event of an anti-pope [and I'm not suggesting that this Pope is an anti-pope] that the teachings would still be uncorrupt, the teachings would remain infallable even if the individual is not. We all have read how Peter denied Jesus 3x, Paul had to correct him on atleast one occassion and he probably wasn't the smartest apostle, but his teachings were flawless. Read some church father's writtings and see that they all took their cues from Peter in Rome. That's why the Catholic church has been around for some 2000 years. That it can and will withstand the attacks of Satan and all of hell itself...that is was Holy Scripture says.

As a Catholic, I am [and have been] disappointed in the handleing of these pediphiles. People-no matter what their faith- are entitled to dignity and justice. Repentance is mandatory for forgiveness from God, but our social justice system should be involved also. This is a problem that is not exclusive to the Catholic church. I have no idea why good men of God would cover such horrible crimes. It only compounds the problem. The why is obvious to me. Satan attacks and we all must do what is right to defend ourselves and our children from evil. If Satan could enter Judas while he was with Jesus, then how many others in our faith [no matter what faith] could he enter? My prayers are with all victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse.
