Hey, choosing to be a pacifist is a wonderful thing and I would applaud anyone who can walk that path.
That said, I feel that the requirement that one mustn't join the military has absolutely no basis as the bible gives no indication that one should not join.
Some people choose not to drink [for numerous reasons,] and that's a wonderful thing, but to say that you mustn't drink to get salvation has no basis in scripture. The same can be said for the requirement of no military service.

I must respectively disagree with designs and jedimaster. The no war thing is unscriptural. The old testament is filled with battles being fought at God's command. The new testament has many examples of Jesus meeting soldiers and he never once instructed them to leave their occupation. As a matter of fact in Math 8;10, Jesus praises a centurian for his faith. Acts 10;22-48 speaks of Cornelius, another [Roman] centurian, as the first Gentile member of the Church. an officer, a rightous and God fearing man. In Luke 3;14 John the Baptist instructs those in the military 'not to harass anybody or accuse them falsely and to be satisfied with their provisions'. Where is this no wars thing? It also makes no sense to not defend your loved ones, your community or your country against unjust agression. Where would the world be? Much worse off I am sure. I need only to read scripture to confirm that. It also makes no sense to say that if everyone were a JW, there would be no wars. Only if everyone followed the WT laws on war would there be no war. The same can be said if everyone followed the 10 commandments, then there would be no war. Who wouldn't defend their home and family from thugs? Better question. In Acts 15;20 , James instructs that the Gentiles to abstain from things polluted by idols, from porniea and from what is strangled and from blood. Porniea in that text refers to marriages that are considered unlawful by Jewish standards.

Wow, that last post by Designs is kinda sad. Clearly you have been taken in by the WTS who would cite bad examples, who happen to be Catholic and make them the Catholic dogma. You may have to research these 'facts'.
The Cathecism of the Catholic Church is what the Church teaches. A Catholic encyclopedia may have common definitions of words, but not dogma, one would go to the Cathecism for teachings.
Easy enough to put to the test. I hope this isn't considered a hijack to ask, but......
Since this is a tread on most ignored scriptures by JWs, I would ask what [if any] are the scriptures that are ignored by the Catholic or Protestant Churches?
