Things in common with JW and Catholics
1-They believe the bible is the word of God
2- They believe Jesus is the messiah
3- I think that's it
i was reading another thread and the comments got me thinking.... https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5656910430732288/pictures-tell-thousand-words.
comments such as oldskools: more like digital colonialism channeled through one of the weaker and less important institutions western society has to offer.. .
some have compared the orgs future path to the world wide church of gods.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/80708572/former-jehovahs-witness-admits-we-targeted-grief-stricken-as-ripe-fruit.
jehovah's witnesses target grief and see the recently bereaved as "ripe fruit" for conversion, a former elder of the faith says.. vince and michele tylor spoke out after reading the story of wellington woman jean sergent-shadbolt, who received a handwritten letter from a jehovah's witness three months to the day after her step-cousin, friend and flatmate died.. a current senior elder of the faith says it has no policy to target grieving, and those who do so are acting on their own initiative.
however, he concedes such people may feel guided by jehovah's witness literature.. but vince tylor said he knew of members who would trawl though obituaries to find grieving people, or visit cemeteries.. "not only do we see watchtower printed material suggesting and supporting writing letters from obituaries such as what jean received, but we even have reports and articles of encouragement for jws to go to cemeteries to look for people as well.".
my uber elder brother told me that JWs like going out on holidays like xmas, mothers day, fathers day or any other day to find potential recruits. He said that days like that, people who are alone are ripe for the picking.
He told me that he has [on more than one occasion] found people in tears from loneliness and he was smiling as he told me.
What a f+#@%^! disgrace the WTS is. What horrible, judgmental, hypocritical, lying behavior the WTS teachings promote to their members.
Nothing like lying for the truth
im talking about crazies.
and i mean, way out there mentally ill nutters that think they're perfectly sane.
every congregation seems to have at least one.
How many more would be WAY OUT THERE with out their meds.
More looneys than a funny farm
international version 1 cor 5:11. but now i am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler.
do not even eat with such people.. if shunning is wrong.
.how does one explain this scripture?.
Shunning seems scriptually appropriate when a son sleeping with his stepmom in your cong..
all other reasons for shunning in your cong seem non scriptural.
But that's my reasoning, not the WTS
in response to the 37 threads in my evolution is a fact series - see bottom of op for links - perry posted a link to an article "44 reasons why evolution isn't true".. i offered him a challenge on the thread and by pm.
predictably he is totally ignoring it, so i am offering the challenge to any evolution-denier who thinks they have evidence to support their position.. please present one specific piece of evidence for creationism.. my task will be to refute it with evidence within 24 hours.. then i will present one piece of evidence for evolution and your challenge will be the same.. all posts must be as succinct as reasonably possible.
entirely in your own words, without copy-paste, videos or links.. please post your interest to take part and we will set it up before the first actual post in the exchange.
Of course there's a trinity, and it can be explained like time.
Time has a past, present and future, yet..yet, they are all time.
Oh, so sorry, replying to the wrong thread
i'm thinking of printing a tract with some simple but thought-provoking questions for people to use when jw's come to their doors.
questions from christians.
bible-believing christians appreciate the moral values of jehovah’s witnesses in their communities but have several questions that somehow seem to escape us when we are caught unexpectedly at our doors.
Greybeard - I likie your tactics. That would be awesome to do and may make them think. I normally engage JWs at my door and nuke them back to the stone age. Ultimately, they leave feeling that I'm a hater and I feel like I won the debate, but nothing has changed. I guess in some ways I am the same as a JW at the door.I think I know better.....weird
i'm new here and haven't introduced myself yet, but have been lurking for the past couple of weeks and learned so much!
quick first question: if i get disfellowshipped for researching info on websites other than jw.org (the official website), how can i expect to be treated by my husband still in the truth?
ie what will he be told by the elders about how to treat me?
Sorry, Im always killing posts

THE FACT: You FEAR anything from doing research is mindboggling isn't it? Labeled and gossiped about for doing research on true history.
I mean really, How can you research what truths are real and what are not?
The bible itself states that one must test things to make sure that they're true.
They lost me at "Lying for the TRUTHtm"
Didn't they lose you yet?
bizarre, yes but consider this .... .
link (story unrelated to op): http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-05-25/council-protects-gippsland-giant-earthworm-habitat/7444228?wt.
this giant earthworm, unique to gippsland, australia, poses a potential problem to the doctrinal teachings of jehovah's witnesses.
If you can't find a giant earthworm, you could debunk all of the JW theological teachings with the bible...
just saying
following the death of susannah jones of the us on 12 may 2016, the oldest person alive today is emma morano of italy.. many years ago i remember my recently converted relative desperately trying to convince me that i too should become a witness because the world was certain to end before the last person who was 15 or older at the outbreak of the first world war had passed away, so time was short if i was to have any hope of reaching paradise etc etc.. i didn't become a witness and, although i know that jw doctrine has changed since then, it's interesting to note that the late ms jones was born on 6 july 1899 so had just reached 15 when ww1 started on 28 july 1914; ms morano was born on 29 november 1914 so was only 14 at the outbreak of war.
there is no one living who was 15 or older at the beginning of ww1.
i wonder if my relative and other zealous witnesses from that period ever reflect on the nonsense they were preaching then?.
I always look to see how old the oldest person is. I remember reading [in the bible] that God set 120 years as the maximum human life span.
As far as witnesses feeling ignorant about past teachings, it doesn't happen until [or unless] they learn ttatt
