the watchtower has been known for over 130 years as a great scriptural cherry-picker.
they pick out disparate unrelated verses and combine them to support the wackiest of wacky doctrines.. on the other hand there are many scriptures they almost never address, whether because they contradict wt doctrine or because they simply don't have a clue what they mean or how to spin them to the wt advantage.. one of these is revelation 19:1 that mentions a "great crowd" "in heaven.
" the only time it is ever brought up it is dismissed.
PSacramento wrote- A translator, any translator, is "allowed" to translate what is in his or hers best opinion the correct meaning of the text.
Yes, I agree that translations are to be the translators best opinion, but that doesn't change the fact that 'ego eimi' never translates to 'I have been' any where else in scripture.
Jesus said 'I am' as a claim of being equal to God. That fact is confirmed by the Jews around him wanting to stone him for blasphemy. Why would anyone [let alone a group] want to stone him for saying 'I have been'? Besides blasphemy, Mosiac law allows stoning for acting as a medium/fortune teller [Lev 20;27], false prophesying [Deut 18;20], leading others to idolatry [Deut 13;5-10], offering children to Molech [Lev 20;2], being a rebellious or stubburn son [Deut 21;18-21], and types of sexual behaviour [being a whore, etc] [Deut 22;21-24]. Was Jesus guilty of one of these crimes? There is no question that the Jews were about to stone him for anyelse other than blasphemy.

I have spent 40 years intensly studying different translations, and the Bible's background- and ALWAYS prove our NWT true to any who give any example they feel wrong! I FOCUS on the Hebrew and/or Greek, the context, and the others connected scriptures- always LOOKING to see if what I have seen to be True ISN'T.
If you feel me wrong- give one example at a time, so we can look at it closely!
I gave you the example of ego eimi = I am. I said that the Watchtower intentionally changed that [see John 20;28] to change what Christ Jesus had truely said.
With your 40 years of intense studying of different translations and the bibles background perhaps you can add some light. Instead of making fun of IamIamIam, why not educate me on how 'I have been' can be translated from 'ego eimi'.
thank you, dc

I find it quite sad that not only do some of these people ignore scriptures, they actually deny them, and then have the gall to throw other scriptures [out oif context] in your face. I really feel terrible about those facts.
MJW indicated that there are no capitals in scripture. Explain this from the NWT - Wonderful Counselor [Who else is refered to as Wonderful Couselor?], Mighty God [who else is refered to as Mighty God?], Eternal Father [Who else is refered to as Eternal Father?]
IS 9:6 For there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

MAD JW and anyone else interested.
I Am is how God answered Moses when he asked 'who should I say told me these things' God asnwered 'tell them I am sent you' Sorry if that doesn't fly with you, but that's what scripture says....speaking of scripture, here's another that Watchtower adherents will ignore. This is strait from the NWT
IS 9: 6 For there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
This is speaking of Jesus, right?

too bad, he and all should embrace our Lord and Savior. He certainly has no 40 years experience interpreting scripture. That much is quite obvious....not trying to dig at you MJW, but be honest with this board and yourself. If you are true, people will want to listen to truth.
I agree that I like Mary's posts, but I don't always agree with her... I hardly agree with myself.lol.

Yes,I agree totally. This thread was taken over for a spell by folks attacking the trinity of all things. It's like 'hello, did you check the post headline?' Can you add anything to this discussion?

Mad JW- Are you familair with the scripture that says 'always learning, but never getting accurate knowledge'? The obvious answer to your question is answered by the fact that no other organization or school of theology recognizes the NWT as an accurate, scholarly, untampered interpretation.
I don't want to get to technical here, cause folks won't read things that are too lengthy, so let me just pick one example ..ok?
ego eimi = I am. That is first week of Greek school you learn that. I am, I will, he is, she is, he will, she will, etc etc. John chap8:verse58 correctly translated has Jesus quoted 'before Abraham came to be, I AM' The Watchtower NWT changes the scripture to read 'before Abraham came into existence, I have been'
That is a change by the Watchtower to cover up Jesus's use of the 'I AM' title used by God in Exodus 3:14. In the Greek Septuagint the Watchtower interprets ego eimi as I am in Exodus 3 :14. In the gospel of John, the Watchtower interprets ego eimi as 'I am 'everytime except John 3;16.
Pretty clear cut and dry, don't cha think? You're a thinker, right?

Well, why not start with something SIMPLE? heh
Is there REALLY a God? Or is it just the Imagination?
Good questions MJW! That's where faith comes in, right?
Personally, I'm a Christian, so I believe in God. I have a conscience and an awareness that no other [visible] creature on earth has.
I have also had very personal experiences that have confirmed that fact to me. Others, I imagine, have had the same.
