while many of us yankees will be eating irish stew & corned beef & cabbage and getting pasted on green beer, irish whiskey, and/or guinness, take a moment to ponder what we're really celebrating.

st patricks day in the us has become more a secular holiday than a religious one, mainly an excuse to overindulge in booze and embrace irish heritage (whether you have any or not), and basically get your party on and wear silly green costumes, which is all fine & dandy.. let's take a brief look at what's really being celebrated, however.. st patrick wasn't even irish.

he was a briton slave kidnapped and taken to rome where he was raised and schooled in catholicism, eventually becoming a bishop.

Not to get too detail oriented, but St. Patrick was actually Scottish and was kidnapped by Irish raiders and sold off as a slave back on the emerald ilse. After a number of years he escaped back to Scotland and then persued a life of education and and religion and was drawn to the catholic faith. He later received the sacrament of the preisthood and then was sent back to Ireland by the church where he converted many pagans to christianity. Clearly, the truth of the saints day has been lost to too many pints as it is a favorite drinking day of many. myself included

How to get your family out of the JW world.

on another thread a new poster the truth is mine talked about needing to stay undercover so that he doesn't lose control of his family to all of his well meaning theocratic relatives.. i remember reading a number of success stories about how some on this forum managed to get out with their families intact.

in particular i was looking for mad sweeney's account of his family bible study night and others who were able to find a way to connect to their loved ones.. i imagine there are a number of lurkers/posters who would like to know how they accomplished that..

I for one would like to know how to get my brother's family out of the JWs intact.

Very difficult as he acknowledges that the JWs are not very scriptural, but still believes that they have the TRUTHtm

I have read this before. There could be several reasons, but one could be that SOME educated people think that they're smarter than everyone else and that they can cover their tracks with spouses and others.

Why can Witness Doctors give Transfusions and sisters sell cigarettes??

it's a "mortal sin" for a witness to not "abstain from blood" or smoke, yet witness elders who work in the medical field are free to administer blood transfusions.

and sisters that work in a supermarkets in the section that sells smokes are free to do so.....it's like not being immoral yourself but being a "pimp daddy" for others..

i was never gay, i just thought i was.

i told my girlfriend about this and she ended up telling her dad.

The bible says alot of things. Many things are disgusting to the Almighty. That's ANY sexual relation aside from marrige. The bible says that even THINKING of relations are offensive to God....so, homo's are the same as everyone else. None of us satisfy God's high standards.

That's why so many are thankful for Jesus who takes away the sin of the world.

If you are embarrassed by your faith/doctrines/beliefs to the point that you hide it from others [even when doing field service initially]...then you might be a JW
