  Theocratic warfare is most definitely defined through false reasoning. Scriptural support for this is presented as 'don't throw pearls before the swine' and something in the old testament about the king being lied to about Sarah being the sister instead of the wife.

  First, it is true and worth acknowledging that the WTS lies to their own flock as a matter of general day to day operation. So in that way, the WTS states that their whole cong are swine. Is that a stretch to any?

  The 2nd example of lyin to the king was so bad, that even the evil king says 'why are you so evil' or 'why have you done such evil?' Certainly, the story does NOT promote lying

  And of course there are numerous places in the bible where God says he HATES a lying tongue and the act of lying.

  The smug arrogance of "having the truth".

  has anyone noticed that witnesses (from the top down) seem to have a quiet form of smug arrogance toward all non witnesses?.

  perhaps it comes from being told how "special and unique" they are but they end up looking down on all normal members of the community because they are not witnesses.. so any form of "love" they show those in the territory is also limited as long as they accept the message...otherwise they are viewed contemptuously as "worldly" and therefore of little value...after all,they will be destroyed right?.

  Yes, I too have experienced this behavior from JWs. Lots of confidence and self rightousness when they first engage you on the bible and Jehovah.

  When I became educated about the JW faith and would poke holes in their doctrine, the smug arrogance would turn on a dime into meek humility.

  hmmm, how well do you think that would go down?.

  you didn't say nothing wrong, isiah states that jesus is such things mentioned.

  would brothers and sisters look at you with a smile, or would there be gasps of shock as you closed a prayer like that..

  Why it's a waste of time talking to JW's

  i believe it to be a waste of time talking to, reasoning with, jw's if you expect any kind of quick result.. many of us when we first wake up think that 'coz ttatt is blindingly obvious to us, it will soon get through to our jw loved ones.. this simply isn't so for a couple of important reasons.

  the first is that, if someone believes something is true, or the truth, to them it really is, without doubt, true.

  so whatever you say must be wrong somehow.. the second problem is that jw's simply do not have to use, or pay any attention to facts and logic.

  It certainly is difficult to reach JWs with truth when truth means so little to the masses. So very contidictory to call a belief 'the Truth' without any truth in it. This is probably why it has been my experiences that most JWs are intellectually dishonest. Present evidence that contradicts their position and they shut down and will not engage any longer.The truth hurts apparently. I have had many conversations with JWs at my door thru the years and have found that they will say almost anything to hold their position. One elder once told me when I asked why would the bible say to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son and Holy Ghost? His reply, That means nothing. They're just names like Tom, Dick and Harry. That poor fellow [and his wife too]

  Another example of false reasoning is their promotion of the torture stake over a cross. Reasoning is that stratus [sorry for spelling] means only an upright stake in Classical Greek. The false reasoning comes from the fact that the new testament is NOT written in classical Greek. Classical Greek had not been spoken since centuries before the birth of Christ. Koine' Greek is the Greek of the new testament and it COULD mean a stake AND it could mean a stake with a cross beam.

  To put it in today's terms, imagine having an English dictionary and translating someone being 'pissed'.

  Being 'pissed' in the UK is very different from being pissed in the US.

  Are they ignorant or do they think everyone else is? That's my question

  Stella asked about the 144k. Another thing that has false reasoning that ONLY 144K go to heaven when the bible specifically states that the number of those in heaven was too great a number to count.

  12k from each of the 12 Hebrew tribes are listed as VIRGIN, JEWISH, MALES who follow Jesus where ever he goes.

  False reasoning if you ask me or any other person who has read that in the bible.

  Nevaagian- So many things to list. I totally agree with your conclusion that birthdays and anniversaries are very similar celebrations.

  My biggest example of false reasoning is 'lying for the truth' because you are allowed to blatantly lie, yet still call it truth. OMFG! How can anyone still fall for such failed reasoning?

  I'm getting baptized

  i know i've started similar topics before but this time i'm serious.

  my parents have been constantly pressuring me and after yesterday's watchtower study they asked me if i was going to be baptized this summer... and i said yes.

  i probably should have thought about it more before making a final decision, but they're pretty much forcing me to do it anyway.

  Explain that you want to be baptized in the strictest biblical traditions.

  You know that the bible explains how to be baptized according to Jesus's instructions.

  That is to be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.

  Not in the name of the father, the son and Gods sole channel or organization.

  Of course, in all honesty, it must suck to be you now. You have my prayers
