by ZindagiNaMilegiDobaara in"what drives these doomsday 'prophets'.
many include wildly inaccurate readings of the book of revelation.
often these pandemic prophets end their predictions with sign-offs such as "if you don't have a bible, buy one!.

I would say that no protesting church or organization has the authority to interpret the NT.
It is a catholic book written and compiled and preserved by the catholic church.
The catholic church told the world that it is the word of God. I think that the WTS would have to prove that the catholic church really did lose their authority with their book AND prove that they really did restore what , if anything was lost/corrupted by the catholic church, I have never seen any of this proof.

When you were fully in, did you believe that you would not die?
by TTWSYF ini know that it must seem silly to ask, but my brother and his family think that the big a will arrive before they die.
i tried to explain to my brother that everyone else who has ever lived in the past has died and only jesus has [physically] rose from the dead.. it is amazing that anyone could buy that line.
what crazy cult culture that could make people believe such nonsense?!.

Are JWs still taught/told that they will never die? That death will not touch God's sole channel of communication to the world?

Should I feel sorry for unprepared jws?
by solomon inthose that discouraged working full time and/or getting some post secondary education and will now feel the pinch because of a tanking economy?.

I feel bad for anyone [everyone] who's unprepared. It sucks for everyone who relies on the economy for their livelihood. We all live in the world. And we all live together.

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."
I dont remember that I ever heard something about this rather complicated passage in Hebrews in any talk in my witnesstime.
I'm not surprised. There is a similar passage in the OT describing God identically.

Sin is a concept fabricated by Bible writers for the sole purpose of controlling the masses
I totally disagree as sin is a real thing. It is a disordered attachment to the pleasure and security of ones self with the disregard to the pleasure and security of others...in a nutshell. Seeking your own pleasure without the concern for others is selfish, hence sinful.

How can it be said that 'He is the same yesterday, and today and forever'?
It IS not said. It IS written in the scriptures.

Why should it be a problem?
Because JWs teach that Jesus is actually the angel Michael. How could Jesus be Michael if he is the same today as yesterday. How could he have been created if he is the same today as yesterday?

The bible- Is it important to learn of it?
Answer- compiled, protected, propagated by the Catholic Church specifically for use in their liturgy. Never intended as an end all-know all guide to Christianity. Proclaimed to all and accepted by many as 'The Word of God' solely because the Catholic Church said so.
If you dismiss the Catholic Church, why would you ever read it?

Interesting OP and the opening list of the number of books that different sects accept.
What would be significant to the true biblical student would be
1]-Who came up with the original list?
They would be the ones that promoted the bible as the word of God. And, they would be the authority on translating it too.right?
2]=Why did they come up with the bible?
As a guide to how to behave? A beginning and end all on everything Christian?
3]- How do we know what belongs and what does not belong in the bible.
With some 40k different sects of Christianity, how would you know that you have the correct number of books and the correct books? How do you know that your sect is correct? They tell you? Or maybe you have a special funny feeling?
Most of us take our authority based on what parents and pastors have told us and we often take that as the authority. Is there another way to find out the biggest question about the bible?
Big questrion-vWHO HAS THE AUTHORITY TO DECIDE WHICH BOOKS ARE THE INSPIRED WORD OF GOD?
Martin Luther. Joe Smith, Pastor Russell, someone else who removed books that they didn't like or books that didn't fit their theology?
Surely, there is a legit source that formulated, propagated and protected the scripts through the centuries.
That would be the only authority in a sea of 10s of thousands of self proclaimed 'true religions'
