it is such a relief to know that all of us 'apostates' are normal people who had the nerve to question what has been crammed down our throats.. i am 4th generation ex-jw with family members at bethel, doing missionary work, and pioneering.
even though i have been out for almost 20+ years, i still had guilt admitting to myself that this was a cult-like organization until just recently.

How many of you were baptised at a young age?
by lepermessiah inone thing this site has made me reflect on the baptism practice in jw land.. many of us were raised in the religion, thus you were given the pressure early on to shoot for baptism as a goal.. i remember feeling bad because i waited until the ripe old age of 14 to take the plunge.. looking back, i realize that when i was 14, i didnt even know what my favorite color was, let alone have enough knowledge to make a life altering decision.
yet, growing up in that climate, i would say anyone who waited past their early teens to get baptised was viewed with great suspicion and was likely to be viewed as "bad association".
kids who took the dip at 8-9 years of age were viewed as "wise beyond their years" and the like.. how old were some of you when you were baptised, and what are your feelings on the matter?.

Thoughts From A Jew
by shamus100 inhaving never really met or been friends with a jewish person, i must say that i was quite amused by his amusement of my little cult experience.
he is serving on a board to help fundraise for his synagogue, and i met many people there, including a lesbian sitting on the board.. gay people in a religion?

Dr. Laura is Jewish (converted from RC, iirc). She has stated more times than I can count that she has Jewish friends. I've heard her take calls from gay people and not attack them or make a big deal of the gay thing. If you couldn't tell, I like her. Simply because she stands up for the rights of kids over the selfishness of adults. I don't agree with everything she says, and I often get annoyed when she carries over her bad feelings about one caller onto another or doesn't really listen well enough to understand the issue, but you can't throw out everything just because of a few bad pieces. 80/20 rule applies, as usual.

but first, i'm going to set the question up properly.. the original christianity became officially established when the catholic church found constantine as its protector and defender in the mid 4th century.. that church grew mighty, powerful and exerted an influence over vast reaches of the earth.. the church had an absolute fetish for anything of nature deemed "holy" that might be a relic of jesus or his apostles or (as time went by) any saint.. this took the form of conserving the true cross, splinters from the true cross (one in the pope's ring!
) the bones of martyrs, robes, chalices, knuckles, fingers, etc.

Ok, i forgot to mention a few more criteria. My ideal woman also plays bass guitar and gushes over kittens and puppies and looks condescending men straight in the eye and says "fuck off" and puts on music so loud that pictures fall off the wall and dances around wildly to it and talks to the person down the street who no one else will talk to and moves over when we're sitting on a sofa together so we are touching and listens to me talk and enjoys it and reads me her poetry and cares what I think about it and changes her own oil even though I won't let her and has her own movies books shows and music that she loves even though I can't stand them, and misses me almost as much as I miss her when we're away for any extended amount of time.

by leec inwould someone please explain to me the etymology of the term "dub" as used in this forum?
i've searched here and elsewhere online (albeit not exhaustively) and cannot find anything enlightening.
(by the way, if it's something really obvious, i am infamous among those who know me for missing the obvious at times, so this is not a joke or anything other than a straightforward question.

I can't answer for the "average guy" because I have never been one. When I see a 'super model' type the first thing I think of is how preoccupied a person has to be with themselves in order to be a 'super model' in the first place.
I freely admit that I am very biased in my own ways as to certain 'looks' influencing my physical attraction, but it's not the stereotypical legs, chest, etc. It's the eyes in my case that initially either attract or repel me. It's hard to explain ... not just the literal outward appearance of the eyes, but the personality I see inside of them.
And no, I'm not saying I'm indifferent to how a woman's body looks, not at all, but it's just that the most beautiful body can look ugly to me if matched with mean eyes and a selfish personality, and a so-so body can be beautiful if matched with kind loving eyes and a giving thoughtful personality.
